The second graders will be looking at the Hawaiian rainforests to start off their 2nd trimester unit on habitats. The rainforest fits perfectly with our Geography Awareness Week theme, fresh water, for the rainforests are an important resource for providing fresh clean drinking water.
Our forests actions like a filter. As the rain falls upon the forests, the water seeps into the ground and all the impurities gets trapped in layers of dirt, sand and rocks under the forests. The water then drains out into our watersheds, streams and rivers. This provides fresh water.
See below a short video on how you can make a difference.
