3: Moon Craters

As the third graders were learning all about the moon this trimester, they had the opportunity to create their own moon craters. They learned that the moon has millions of craters caused by meteors and asteroids hitting the surface of the moon.  So they recreated the moon using flour and cocoa powder. Using a rubber ball, they dropped it to see how big of a crater it would make. They measured and recorded the diameter of their craters.  It looked liked they had a wonderful time, particularly when they were done and were able to really throw the ball to make huge craters.
