My goals is that this grading system will give students an accurate picture of their strengths and weakness in regards to language arts “skills”.\u00a0 The grades in English are weighted according to the following categories. A short description of activities and assignment focused in each category are noted.<\/p>\n

30% Writing<\/strong>– ability to express ideas in a clear, concise, and articulate manner.
\n25% Reading<\/strong>-ability to comprehend and discuss reading material.
\n20% Grammar\/Vocabulary<\/strong>– “Write Source” activities and work sheets (grammar), parts of speech.
\n15%\u00a0 Participation\/Projects<\/strong>– participation in group discussion and activities, P\u016b’ulu Lehua interdisciplinary projects.
\n10% Homework<\/strong> – students will receive a 1 or 0 in this category. If homework is completed at the start of class, then students will receive a 1; but if homework is not completed at the start of class, then students will receive a 0.<\/p>\n

As you can see, writing and reading are the two categories that are “weighted” the highest because I feel these are the two most important “skills” students need to master in order to survive in the real world.<\/p>\n

Late work will be accepted up to ONE WEEKS (5 school days) after the due date of the assignment without any penalty. It would be in the best interest of the students to use the extra time to complete assignments with effort. If homework is not completed after the allotted time period, students will receive 40% of the assignment. (Example: if an assignment is worth 20 points, after 10 days the assignment is not turned in, the student will receive 8 points.) It is your responsibility to check KS Connect regularly to ensure your grades are accurate. MI notates that an assignment is missing and has not been turned in.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>In a school wide effort to “go green” and conserve resources, detailed progress reports will only be given to those students receiving a D+ and below, or students of concern. For any parent whose child is not failing but would like to see their child\u02bbs progress report,\u00a0 please email me and I will send you an electronic copy.<\/p>\n
