Grade 8: Performing Arts
Ukulele

PERFORMANCE TASK

The task is for the students to identify criteria of a good/quality performance. As a class, students agree upon criteria of a high-quality performance: being on time, posture, preparedness, eye contact, smiling, and basic stage presence. Based off of a recorded ukulele performance, students use these criteria and a scale (beginning, developing, proficient, advanced) to peer-assess and in turn receive feedback from their peers. Based on their feedback students set individual goals to improve by the next performance (2 months). After the last performance, students observe themselves (via video recording) engaging in a self-evaluation of themselves against the predetermined criteria. Finally, students complete a reflection on their growth between the two performance and whether or not their individual goals were met.

Student Self Assessment & Goal Setting

ANNOTATION

The student has a general understanding of the success criteria as illustrated in her reflective statement “she was looking all over the place and barely smiling”.

She is generally accurate in assessing the performance as she selected “Proficient” in the rubric.

She uses feedback to better her own performance as indicated in her self-reflection compared to her previous assessment. In Concert 2: February

{14:10} “Confidence in performing and speaking at introducing songs”
{14:46-16:01} “Singing with confidence in smiling, projecting, and posture”.
{16.42} “Kalena standing still during talent section (Europa)”

This is evidence of her understanding of the knowledge and skills as it relates to the given rubric. This also shows that she uses the feedback given to her to improve her performance.
