Grade 6: Languages
ʻŌlelo Hawaiʻi

PERFORMANCE TASK

Hoʻolauna introduction.  Students will introduce themselves and include their moʻokūʻauhau (genealogy) to 3 generations prior.  Students will also include an introduction of a family relative (living or deceased). Name, relation, where they are from, age if applicable.

ANNOTATION

Task Completion

Student completes tasks by doing moʻokūʻauhau 3 generations back; hoʻolauna of self and relation to family member; introduction of family member using detailed information and formulation as learned in unit

Comprehensibility

Student can be understood clearly; portions of her moʻokūʻauhau were rushed and needed to be listened to a couple times to hear exact words

Fluency

Student pauses occasionally but completes thoughts; some portions are spoken quickly as perhaps a memorized piece.

Pronunciation

Puana is maikaʻi, clear and understood without difficulty.  Correct pronunciation of words such as “Oʻahu” and “hānau” show proficiency. (If given the opportunity to have more experience and exposure to a native speaker, the student would have been advanced.)

Vocabulary

Student uses appropriate and accurate vocabulary for context of haʻi ʻōlelo

Language Control

Student uses sentence structures appropriately such as basic genealogy structures and hoʻolauna.
