Grade 4: Math

PERFORMANCE TASK

The Pet Club is raising money for the local animal shelter. The club members want to make fundraising posters that tell how a donation helps the animals in the shelter. Each poster will have a statement like the following:
A donation of $ helps # cats, # small dogs, and # large dogs for one day.

The chart below shows the amount that the shelter spends caring for animals.

  • Cat: $3
  • Small Dog: $4
  • Large Dog: $5

Decide on three different donation amounts for the posters. Complete a statement for each donation amount. Write how many of each kind of animal the donation helps. Explain how you decided which numbers to use in your three statements.

After you complete the task, choose one of the following questions to answer:

  • How did you use the information in the table to help you decide on donation amounts?
  • How do factors and multiples help you solve this problem?
