PERFORMANCE TASK
- Haumana are a native Hawaiian; learning to speak Hawaiian, and not raised with ʻŌlelo Hawaiʻi in the home.
- Haumana will participate in an impromptu conversation with someone just met, a Hoʻolauna; introduce self to another haumana ma ka ʻŌlelo Hawaiʻi; multiple questions asked(in no particular order)
- Answers without hesitation or refer to notes or promptings. May not necessarily be ownself; role play.
- Your answers will flow naturally and your is pilina (connection) with your culture and your kupuna will be immediately felt. Identifying with this practice will help your personal esteem and pride towards your lāhui (people), language, and lifestyle.
- As you answer questions during the “Launa,” you too, will be able to ask and inquire of another hoapapa (classmate).
- While conversing during the launa, you will not repeat was is asked or think of a memorized question or answer, but respond with honesty and fully comprehend the conversation. (extended assessment)
- The Hoʻolauna (introduction) conversation will consist of two haumana conversing in an unplanned manner.
The following will be asked:
- ʻO wai kou inoa?
- Pehea ʻoe?
- No hea mai ʻoe?
- ʻEhia ou makahiki?
- He aha kau waihoʻoluʻu punahele?
- ʻO wai kou ʻohana?
The following will be answered:
- ʻO _______ koʻu inoa.
- _________ nō wau/au.
- No _________ mai au a noho wau i __________.
- __________ oʻu mau makahiki?
- ʻO ______________ kaʻu waihoʻoluʻu punahele.
- ʻO ______________ koʻu ʻohana.
By answering the nīnau (question) haumana will able to choose from nā helu (numbers), nā waihoʻoluʻu (colors), wahi (places), how you feel presently, and practice Lawena Hawaiʻi (the essence of being Hawaiʻi). Haumana will make reference to what you have learned thus far.
*Noʻonoʻo: Haumana may pull from a box; in it are multiple characters with information (name, age, resident, feel, from/birth place, ʻohana name, color). Other than self launa, draws a pepa for impromptu haʻi ʻōlelo; no practice or recite. Preparation and understanding is needed to succeed.

Task Completion
In all wikio, haumāna asks and answers all nīnau, as expected in goal criteria-Hoʻolauna between two people; not necessarily all true, just a role play and use of different age and origin.
Comprehensibility
Haumāna responds correctly and understands questions-see all nīnau in lesson plan. Various types of answers, no script, any particular order. Comprehensiveness is evident.
Fluency
Haumāna are relaxed and comfortable with launa; little or no hesitation when when conversing; very confident and engaging. Easy flow not too many pauses.
Pronunciation
Haumāna uses puana proficiently by pronouncing all hua ʻōlelo correctly-Communication is clear.
Vocabulary
Haumana uses vocab correctly-see task for hua ʻōlelo. Knows and understands all nīnau. Able to use a variety of hua ʻōlelo learned in lessons.
Language Control
Haumana emerges in the ʻŌlelo by answering all nīnau ma ka ʻŌlelo Hawaiʻi-Sentence pattern is complete; uses personal thoughts and reference when asking as well as answering. No pausing or distracted by outside environment, very focus on task at hand and direction of the conversation.
