ʻŌlelo Hawaiʻi

PERFORMANCE TASK

The student will have a friendly conversation with their kumu in order to apply language rules and vocabulary of ʻōlelo Hawaiʻi to communicate effectively. Student will be asked a series of questions in random order and they will need to be able to answer in complete sentences.

Student is able answer and respond to questions posed by kumu with some added detailed information

Comprehensibility

Student responses are clear requiring no interpretation.

Fluency

Student is quick to respond and has minimal hesitations. He is able to answer in complete thoughts with complete sentences.

Pronunciation

Puana is maikaʻi with very minimal errors (ex: ʻai vs. ʻae), which does not interfere with communication.

Vocabulary

Student uses a variety of vocabulary appropriate for context with an English word which is difficult to circumlocute in ʻŌlelo Hawaiʻi (ex: unknown words like steak and spaghetti).

Language Control

Student has emerging control of basic language structures (i.e. pepeke ʻaʻano/painu, conversational norms). But, he doesnʻt yet have control of the negating language structure (ex: “ʻAʻole heluhelu au.” “ʻAʻole hoʻolohe au.”)
