Of the tickets sold at the theater last Saturday, 60% were for animated films. The rest were for nonanimated films. Of those who saw an animated film, 25% were children, and 2/3 of the children saw the film as a matinee. The other 112 saw the movie at night. How many people in all saw animated films?
Problem of the Week #2 Solution
Sorry this took so long. I promise to get better at being efficient. The answer is 126 weeks with $145 dollars left over. I guess you could use the money to buy it some food!
New Math Literature Site
I accidentally came across this great site called that has great children’s books that parents, students and teachers can use to teach and reinforce math skills. I like how the site organizes the books by concepts, so if your looking for a book on geometry, then go directly to the geometry section. Check it out and I hope you find it to be a useful resource.
POW Problem of the Week #2
I obviously started with an easy POW last week and so the answer to that is 1 coin of course, a penny!
Here’s this week’s problem. Good luck!
In February 1998, Cindy Jackson of London, England, bought a Bengal cat for $41,435! Suppose every person in a class of 22 saved $15 a week. How long would it take for the class to purchase the cat?
POW – Coin Combinations
It’s already Tuesday and here I go with this week’s problem of the week. Sorry for the late start. This week’s problem has to do with money. Good luck. When stores are very busy, lines of customers at the cash registers get very long. One way cashiers can work quickly is by using the minimum number of coins possible when giving back change. If you purchased an item that costs $2.99, and paid with a $20.00 bill, what would be the minimum number of coins the cashier could give you as change?
