It has since become a worldwide effort to celebrate computer science, starting with 1-hour coding activities (10-15 minutes for early learners is sufficient) but expanding to all sorts of community efforts. Check out the <a href=\"https:\/\/hourofcode.com\/us\/learn\"><span class=\"s1\">tutorials and activities (Select Pre Readers)<\/span><\/a>\u00a0This grassroots campaign is supported by over\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/hourofcode.com\/us\/partners\"><span class=\"s1\">400 partners<\/span><\/a>\u00a0and 200,000 educators worldwide.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><b>When is the Hour of Code? <\/b>The Hour of Code takes place each year during\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/csedweek.org\/\"><span class=\"s1\">Computer Science Education Week<\/span><\/a>. The 2021 Computer Science Education Week will be December 6-12, but you can host an Hour of Code all year-round. Computer Science Education Week is held annually in recognition of the birthday of computing pioneer\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Grace_Hopper\"><span class=\"s1\">Admiral Grace Murray Hopper<\/span><\/a>\u00a0(December 9, 1906).<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><b>Why computer science? <\/b>Every\u00a0student should have the opportunity to learn computer science. It helps nurture problem-solving skills, logic and creativity. By starting early, students will have a foundation for success in any 21st-century career path. See more stats\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/hourofcode.com\/us\/promote\/stats\"><span class=\"s1\">here<\/span><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><b>Coding with Early Learners: <\/b>For early learners a 5-10 minute interactive coding activity in a large or small group is appropriate.
