First you want to look up the character you need to use.
Place the code in your document.
Use the numerical code, it is the most compatible format.
Always check your entity code.
Your entity code should always begin with an ampersand (&) and always end with a semi-colon (;).
Test your pages in as many browsers as you can.
If the character is crucial to understanding your document, and you can’t test it in the browser/OS combinations that your customers use, then you should find another way to represent it such as an image.
