Christmas Concert 2014

Aloha Parents & students,

A letter was sent home regarding the unfortunate cancelation of Na Mele O Maui.  As was mentioned in the letter, we will be performing in the KS Maui Winter Concert next week Thursday, Dec. 11.

We will be singing our two Na Mele songs, as well as a few Christmas numbers.  Please have your child practice these songs in preparation for this up coming event.

Mahalo!

Na Mele 2014 is here!!!!

Aloha 5th grade parents,

Each year I take our 5th grade students to the annual Na Mele O Maui song competition where they compete with other schools throughout Maui County in a choir setting.  The date for this years event is : TUESDAY DEC. 9th at the MACC. We will be singing 2 songs which are both sung  in Hawaiian.

I am happy to announce that the rules of Na Mele O Maui have been revised to allow a group bring 48 singers.  This means that I can take everyone along to participate as long as they pass know their lyrics. As has been tradition, I only take 5th graders.  Your son/daughter’s ticket to participating in this annual event is simple:  Pass the 2 different tests (written or sung).

We just received notice of the date and theme for this years event earlier this week.  With not much time to practice and learn 2 songs, I ask that you help support your child in their efforts.

Our first written test will be on WEDNESDAY OCTOBER 29th which is an A day.  All students have known about this test since last week and we have been practicing the song in class for a few weeks now.

Please have your child study the lyrics and practice singing at home.  The words and music to our first song can be found in the “Na Mele O Maui” section of my blog.

Mahalo,

Mr. Tuitele

IMPORTANT Na Mele O Maui 2013 ANNOUNCEMENT!

Aloha 5th grade parents,

Each year I take our 5th grade students to the annual Na Mele O Maui song competition where they compete with other schools throughout Maui County in a choir setting.  The date for this years event is : THURSDAY DEC. 5th at the MACC. We will be singing 2 songs which are both sung  in Hawaiian.

The rules of the competition only allow me to bring 45 total students.  Rather than hold an open vocal audition within the 4th and 5th graders (that is the category we will being participating in), I have decided to make it a tradition to take only 5th graders.  Their ticket to participating in this annual event is simple:  Pass the 2 different written tests.  All I have the 5th graders do is write the lyrics for me in Hawaiian.

We just received notice of the date and theme for this years event earlier this week.  With not much time to practice and learn 2 songs, I ask that you help support your child in their efforts.

Our first written test will be on FRIDAY NOVEMBER 1st which is a B day.  All students have known about this test since last week and we have been practicing the song in class for a few weeks now.

Please have your child study the lyrics and practice singing at home.  The words and music to our first song can be found in the “Na Mele O Maui” section of my blog.

Mahalo,

Mr. Tuitele

Congratulations to our 5th graders!!!!!

Hooray!  I am SO proud of you all for working hard and singing beautifully.  Every single one of you have contributed to the beautiful sound that touched so many people at Na Mele!

Remember how nervous you were backstage?  Remember how hard you worked to memorize your words?  Remember the feeling you had when they announced our school as the winner?  Never ever forget that feeling!

No matter what the outcome, you are all winners in my book!  I am privileged to be your music teacher and am honored to have you as my students since Kindergarten!  Continue to work hard and do your best in EVERYTHING that you do – both at school, at home, and in your community!

Mahalo e na haumana!!!

Mr. Tuitele
