MAKAWAO ELEMENTARY KUMU IN-SERVICE DAY ON KS MAUI CAMPUS<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

On Monday, November 3, 2025,<\/strong> M\u0101hele Uka Po\u02bbo Kumu, Lance Cagasan<\/strong> hosted 40 Kumu from Makawao Elementary School during Papa 1 and Papa 2. The Kumu got to tour the Charles Reed Bishop Learning Center\u02bbs Keaouli Collections with Librarian Kau\u02bbi Podlewski<\/strong>. They also learned about the work that KS Maui Kumu H\u014dk\u016bao Pellegrino <\/strong>and Kumu \u02bbIwikauikaua Joaquin<\/strong> are designing and facilitating the Kamehameha Schools Maui Sustainability & \u02bb\u0100ina-Based Ka \u02bb\u0100ina M\u0101huahua<\/strong> program. Makawao Kumu had the opportunity to explore the adjacent Kalialinui gulch. Before they left, Po\u02bbo Cagasan offered them a nice, cooling ice cream sundae bar. The Makawao Elementary Kumu had many questions and plans for collaborating further with KS Maui.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

TE P\u0100TI M\u0100ORI <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Two days after she spoke to our haum\u0101na on our KS Maui campus, Debbie Ngarewa-Packer<\/strong> visited the University of Hawai\u02bbi at M\u0101noa on Thursday, October 30<\/strong>, to discuss the future of Indigenous governance and solidarity across the Pacific. She appeared in an onstage conversation with Dr. Noelani Goodyear-Ka\u02bb\u014dpua<\/strong>. Before entering Parliament, she led her iwi (people), Ng\u0101ti Ruanui, in successful campaigns to block seabed mining off the South Taranaki coast.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This conversational event was made possible through the sponsorship of Kai\u0101ulu by the Kamehameha Schools<\/strong>, and with additional support from the University of Hawai\u02bbi at M\u0101noa\u02bbs College of Arts, Languages & Letters; School of Ocean and Earth Science and Technology, College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resilience; and William S.
