Begin with prayer.<br \/>\n3)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Introduce the purpose &amp; kuleana of Senior Service Day.<br \/>\n4)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Share why you feel it\u2019s important to give back. Speak from the na\u2018au.<br \/>\n5)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Transition to engaging your classmates in a discussion:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Have each classmate write down 2 community needs.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Evaluate the needs &amp; identify which ones come up most frequently.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">List &amp; rank the top 5 needs, with #1 being the top need.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Identify possible service organizations for all 5 community needs.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">6)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Work together with your homeroom teacher to contact those service organizations.<br \/>\n7)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Follow-up with your homeroom(s) about the progress of your top 3 choices.<br \/>\n8)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Re-assess if needed.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">HELPFUL TIPS FOR HOMEROOM KUMU<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Allow your homeroom representative to take the lead on the discussion.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Add mana\u2018o when appropriate.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Do not let the discussion fade. Instead, provide thoughtful prompts to stimulate critical thinking.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Ask your homeroom representative what he\/she would like you to do to help.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">You may want to take your own notes in case your homeroom representative needs to reflect back on what was discussed.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Praise your homeroom representative &amp; students for their work.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Infect enthusiasm in the planning process J<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">IMPORTANT INFORMATION<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>What:\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Senior Service Day<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>When:\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/strong>Wednesday, Oct. 17<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Time of Service:\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0 <\/strong>Between the <strong>3-hour window of 9:30 am to 12:30 pm.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Note: depending on the location of the service site, drop-off &amp; pick-up times may be earlier or later due to travel time. <strong>Expect to perform 2.5 hours of service with 30 mins. for lunch.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">GUIDELINES<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Service must be off-campus on Wednesday, October 17, 2012.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Service must last for approximately 2.5 hours (9:30 am-12:00 pm). Make sure that your service agency has enough work for you to do for that entire period.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Organizations will need to provide any additional items for their service.
