Tahiti Collaboration Begins!

We have begun an exciting new collaboration with a school in Papeete, Tahiti!  Our Kindergarten and Third Grade students will be working with them using Skype throughout the rest of this and all of next year.

We cannot wait to learn all about them and are excited about teaching them about our community, Hawaiian language, and culture.

During our first Skype sessions with them we introduced ourselves to them and sang songs for each other.  We learned that there are many words in the Tahitian language that sound like the Hawaiian language!  We also learned some French words like Bravo!  We also learned that Aloha in Tahitian is Iaorana!

Here are some video clips of our first Skype sessions.  We are so excited about this project!

Our Collaboration with Baltimore Continues!

Last year we were very lucky to be able to participate in a number of projects with Cromwell Valley Technology Magnet Elementary School in Baltimore, Maryland.

We have continued that collaboration this year with many different activities in various grade levels. Our first graders in Mrs. Littrell’s class are learning about Baltimore and teaching them about life in Hawaiʻi.

Our fifth graders in Mrs. Ah Hee’s class prepared and presented Google Presentations over Skype, sharing interesting things about life in Hawaiʻi.

Kumu Kala and Kumu Derr’s students also had an opportunity to connect with their Baltimore counterparts.

We are so lucky to find such great collaborators thousands of miles away!
Take a look at the short movie below that shows a few pics and video clips of some of our Skype sessions.

I Wonder #17…..Fun in Fifth Grade

Mrs. Ah Heeʻs class had some fun while learning last week. They decided to create their own version of the Harlem Shake. Have you seen our high schoolsʻ version on youtube?

Well, Mrs. Ah Heeʻs students came up with a great idea. They borrowed some iPod, shot some video, did some editing, and all in one day put their work up on the web.

Do you want to see it?
