COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT AND RESOURCES

Community Engagement & Resources (CE&R) exists to ensure that KS achieves its SP2020 educational and ʻāina targets collectively, with community partners, while integrating and optimizing KS resources and services within nine regions statewide. CE&R builds strong relationships, brings strategic intention to understanding of community strengths and challenges, and seeks opportunities for collective impact thereby ensuring improved capabilities and well-being of the lāhui. The group balances statewide, systemic strategies with focused community-based regional portfolios of action in order to achieve maximum outcomes for Native Hawaiian communities and ʻāina.

CE&R’s core operations and functions include:

  • Regional portfolios of education programs and community investing collaborations,
  • Stewardship of 360,000+ acres of agricultural, conservation, and rural mixed-use lands,
  • Education and ʻāina advocacy, collective impact initiatives, and statewide partnerships,
  • Operation of community-based resource offices, learning centers, and ʻāina-based facilities,
  • Engagement with the Network of Native Hawaiian schools and other key systems partners, and
  • Planning and strategy for ʻāina, water systems, facilities, and sustainability initiatives.

HAWAIʻI ISLAND FOCUS

The Community Engagement and Resources group of Kamehameha Schools is responsible for the management of Kamehameha Schools’ assets in nine regions across Hawaiʻi. Moku o Keawe is separated into two regions, East Hawaiʻi and West Hawaiʻi. The East Hawaiʻi Region is a dynamic space for integrating and leveraging Kamehameha and community assets to promote Mauli Lāhui.

“We envision generations who walk into the future with confidence in their cultural identity and a commitment of service to akua, ‘āina, and each other.”

Nā Honua Mauli Ola (NHMO), Second Edition

In order to strengthen the Mauli Lāhui, we, the East Hawaiʻi Region, embrace the kuleana bestowed upon us by Pauahi to steward her resources into perpetuity. Standing on a foundation of haʻahaʻa and aloha, and in one voice, we will continue to seek ways to enhance the Mauli Lāhui through applying the tradition of ancestral excellence and innovation in all that we do. We recognize the urgency to collaborate internally and externally in service to achieve meaningful [educational] impact with our community.
