Positive Behavior Support (or “PBS”) is a division-wide system designed to teach social skills and to prevent and address challenging behaviors. PBS is a consistent and intentional focus on teaching social skill and emotional literacy. For example: making friends, taking turns, expressing feelings, problem solving. Furthermore,
PBS is based on a team process that joins staff and the family together to address persistent challenging behavior of the child.
The KS Preschool Team includes:
Teaching Staff: Provides learning opportunities for each child
Outreach Counselor: Directs services and support to families
Instructional Specialist: Provides coaching and instructional support to teaching staff
Educational Coordinator: Administrator
In addition, children in our program will be able to develop and display behaviors that exemplify three core Hawaiian Values:
Aloha: We live aloha when we are respectful, sincere and empathetic; being kind and courteous; and using language that is not offensive to adults or peers.
Mālama: We show mālama when we take care of ourselves, each other and our community, by appropriately using materials and equipment, and respecting the rights of others.
Kuleana: We show kuleana when we take care of our responsibilities and actively participate in our communities.
