Some of the highlights on Day two… Molly Schroeder covered some great examples of tools to use for flipping your class. She mentioned several of the tools many of you already know about such as Google Voice, Jing, Screencastomatic, Camtasia, and of course Youtube for teachers.
*One of the take aways here was how flexible Youtube is that you can actually create your own video recording within Youtube and use the video editor for additional features such as pausing the time frames, adding bubbles, or links. And if you use Google sites, you could embed the Youtube video next to a form and have students fill out the form as they watch the video side by side.
Kern Kelley – District-Wide Implementation of Google Apps
He covered several interesting ideas on how he gets students involved and this one below as probably one that caught my attention:
*Every Tuesday at 3:00 EST his students host a session called “Live with Tech Sherpas” (TechSherpas.org)
*cool way to have students on Google Hangouts and people can ask questions live and this is open to anyone interested in learning something new or to ask a question
Chris Bell, GCT, Saddleback Valley Unified & EdTechTeam, Inc. hosted a session on 25+Ways to USe Google Tools for Online & Blended Learning. One thing he shared was to try to focus more on connection with the students and timeliness of collecting and providing feedback. He mentions such tools as Socrative student and InfuseLearning.com to receive responses from students in real time.
Chris also covered several of the more popular apps from Google like Google+ for book clubs, practicing language skills, and creating communities; Google Groups which helps to build independence and a sense of community to share ideas and thoughts; Google Calendar which can be embedded in almost anything such as an LMS and you can attach assignments to your calendar.
In the Demo Slam, Chris covered a site called IFTTT.com. IFTTT is a service that lets you create powerful connections with one simple statement: If This, Then That. It allows you to almost create shortcuts or scripts to have triggers and actions attached to images or links.
