{"id":822,"date":"2014-09-05T15:55:48","date_gmt":"2014-09-06T01:55:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogsksbeedu.wpenginepowered.com\/smkaleoh\/?p=822"},"modified":"2014-09-05T16:08:16","modified_gmt":"2014-09-06T02:08:16","slug":"hilo-and-how-it-got-its-name","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/blogs.ksbe.edu\/smkaleoh\/2014\/09\/05\/hilo-and-how-it-got-its-name\/","title":{"rendered":"Hilo&#8230;..and how it got its name"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In our study of Hilo we read the mo`olelo of how Hilo got its name. \u00a0We learned how hilo means to twist and that using the Ti-leaf was a way to twist. \u00a0We were so fortunate to have `Anakala Kawika and Ka`imi from our groundskeeping division come into the classroom and share their `ike on the ti-leaf plant. \u00a0They showed us how to m\u00e5lama the plant, pick it and even propagate it. \u00a0We concluded our lesson by working in pairs and practiced &#8220;hilo-ing&#8221;
