The children are now learning about shapes in math. In this unit they will create, identify, describe, compare, represent and build with 2-D and 3-D shapes. They also will explore the relationships between 2-D and 3-D shapes as they match the faces of Geoblocks – a set of related three-dimensional wooden blocks – to corresponding 2-D shapes.

As a culmination of the measurement unit in Math, the children made sleeping mats for their stuffed animals. First, they had to measure the length and width needed and record this in the math journal. Next, they put away the stuffed animals and, using their measurements, made a sleeping mat of the appropriate size. Finally, the children compared their stuffed animals to their mats. Did their stuffed animals fit?
