Did you know that a nonfiction book has different features (keys) to help you gather information and satisfy your curiosity? Some features are visual keys <\/em><\/strong><\/span>such as a map, a graph, and a photograph. Other features are informational and organizational keys <\/strong><\/em><\/span>such as captions, charts, sidebar, appendix, index, and the table of contents.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Visual Keys:<\/strong><\/span> These nonfiction keys help you get more information with your eyes.\u00a0 They show you the information. (close-up, comparison, cutaway, font, graph, map, photograph, timeline)<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

Informationa Keys:<\/strong><\/span> These nonfiction keys help you get information through written facts.\u00a0 They tell you information. (captions, chart, diagram, label, sidebar)<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

Organizatinal Keys:<\/strong><\/span>\u00a0 These nonfiction keys organize visual and informational keys into ways that help you locate information. (appendix, bibliography, glossary, index, table of contents)<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n
