I listened to Hawaiian Suppa Man Yesterday.
Pele is the fire godess who brought the name Hawaii. Maui is the trickster who brought almost brought the islands together. Papa-hanau-moku is mother earth who was jealous because Wakea, father sky was cheating on her with Ho’ohokukalani, godess of the stars. Kumulipo is a song about the creation of earth and humans, light and creatures were being born.
Maui is the boy who had the magic fishhook which he through that made it turn into the constillasion scorpio. Pele is the fire godess who lives in Kilauea. Wakea, Papahanaumoku, Ho’ohokukalani are the god and godess who gave birth to the islands or Papahanoumoku and Ho’ohokukalani gave birth. Kumulipo was the creation of the land.
Papahanaumoku and Wakea are together they made the islands Hawai`i and Maui. Kumulipo is a perspective of how nature and humans came to be.

wakea is father sky and papahanaumoku is mother earth ho’ohokukalani is goddess of the stars. one day wakea meets papa and they get together and papa gives birth to hawaii and maui. another day wakea meets ho’ohokukalani and they get together and they have molokai and lanai kaula.They fight and papahanaumoku finds a way to get wakea on her side and they give birth to Oahu, kaui,niihau and kahoolawe kahoolawe is the after birth of niihau.

I loved retelling the story about Papa and Wakea.It was so much fun!!!I also liked retelling the story of Pele.It’s so cool that she has an island of her own.Last but not least is Maui.I loved hearing the story myself and writing it down on paper.Thanks Kumu Kala!!!Your the best!!!

Kumulipo starts off dark but towards the end the light starts to grow. Wakea is the father sky, Papahanaumoku is mother earth, and Ho’ohokulani is the goddess of the stars. Pele’s full name is Pelehonuamea and she lives in Kilauea. Maui is the hawaiian super man.
Pelehonuamea is the fierce Goddess of fire that lives in Kilauea. Pele fought for her home once after she dedicated it to the Gods.Maui-akamai is a man who grew up in the hands of the gods.When Maui got back to his original home he was blocked from the hale by two posts, they where soon knocked down by Maui. In Papahanumoku and Wakea the islands are some of Papa’s children. Wakea also cheated on Papa. Kumulipo is when the sea animals gave birth to land animals. The humans where the last to set foot on land. I had fun learning the different beliefs from our Hawaiian culture. My favorite part of learning them was reading the books with Kumu Kala because she reads with feeling!!!
