Yay!! We are absolutely delighted that our ‘uala are finally in their new home in our mala here at school. We planted them on the setting of Kukolu and the rising of Kupau…the perfect moons for planting ‘uala! We honor the knowledge of our kupuna by following their ways of knowing! It took us the whole trimester to prepare for this day. What a perfect day for planting our ‘uala! Mahalo e na kupuna. Mahalo e ke Akua!
Aloha!
What a beautiful Monday….Ekalesia…Library!
E Ola Pono! Live Righteously! Ekalesia was beautiful and the keiki enjoyed the message, the stories, the performance by the Keiki Worship team and of course singing themselves. We sang songs like “Joyful”, “Hoʻonani”, “Jesus Loves Me” and “This Little Light of Mine.” Todayʻs message for us was to “Speak Pono, Do Pono, Think Pono and ask for forgiveness when we have wronged another.” Perfect message!
Today we “Browsed and Borrowed” from our very abundant library…Mahalo nui e ke aliʻi Pauahi! The keiki browsed for books that were about topics they are interested in…they had fun. What fabulous books you all have!! Happy Reading!!!
Connecting with Uncle Wally in Samoa
We got to participate in a Google Hangout with Uncle Wally in Samoa!
WEʻRE BACK!!!! Aloha Tuesday-return from Fall Break!
WOW!! We all had a “SUPER FUN” and safe Fall Break….and WEʻRE BACK full of excitement and ready to keep on keeping on….we started with our morning oli with all of our hoakula (schoolmates) from grades K-5 and then we shared memories that we made during our break…we also shared our fears with all the lightning and thunder that happened yesterday. We got right into more sharing with our “Authorʻs Chair” activity where the keiki shared their narrative pieces about themselves to their fellow peers. We will continue to build upon this narrative piece and expand to interesting topics like “My favorites”. We continued with our math activities as we continue to explore our shapes. We are creating fictional characters out of our shapes and will be writing our own stories about them. We are also in process of moving to different districts….which means we are changing our seating arrangements. The keiki are excited about that.
Enjoy these snapshots!

We are so proud of Aubrey and Kaimana…our September Haweo Awardees. Both Kaimana and Aubrey show malama in all that they do…they malama themselves, their kuleana (responsibilities), their ʻohana papa (class family), their things and their Hawaiian culture by being the best Hawaiian they can be. I mua!!!
Mahalo nui e na makua for joining us today at our Haweo luncheon….we honor you too! Mahalo nui!
Papa ʻEkahi Visits Middle School Garden with Mr. Floro!
Our Papa ʻEkahi visited Mr. Floro, the sixth grade science teacher, to visit their Middle School Garden. We were treated to dried bananas and fresh coconut. Mr. Floro had Uncle Wally in mind and knew that taking the fresh bananas or the heavy fresh coconut on the Hokuleʻa would not be such a great idea….too big, too bulky and the bananans might get all mashed up. He prepared dried bananas and cut up the coconuts instead!
~ “Nani ke akamai o ko kakou poʻe Hawaiʻi!”
We are working on getting our very own ʻuala plants in our garden here at the school. We will keep you posted on the progress of that!
Please enjoy this short clip of our visit with Mr. Floro! Aloha!
We had a great week….have a BLESSED Fall Break!

We were blessed with a visit from Uncle Wally Wong, watch captain on Hokuleʻa for the Samoa to Aotearoa voyage. He leaves on Monday and will be our pilina, our connection to all the places and people he will be connecting with. He is taking our picture with him as he voyages….Uncle Wally is a part of our class and we will be a part of the crew. Eo e Hokuleʻa!

“Hilo i ka ua Kanilehua” ~ Hilo of the Kanilehua Rain.
The rain blessed us this morning and it was a blessed day indeed! Mahalo nui i ke Akua and to our moms, dads, grandmas and grandpas who chose to mālama our keiki as chaperones on our field trip to Hilo today. All of our keiki were on their best behavior and represented Kamehameha Schools, our Princess Pauahi and their ʻohana with dignity and pride! Maikaʻi e nā keiki!!!
Here is a collage of some of the places we visited today in Hilo. We learned so much and we will be reflecting on and compiling all that we have learned and documented on our Ipads.
