This test will require you to remember and apply what you have learned from the jobs of the President, and the system of checks and balances. Here are some sample questions that you can think about, and we will discuss in class on Monday.
- During the election, a friend of the candidate helped get many votes for the candidate who later became president. Once he became the president, he told his friend that he could be part of his Cabinet, and to pick whatever position he wanted. Can this abuse of power be prevented, and how?
- Congress is considering a bill that would give a big increase in salary to all of the members of the legislature. Since it seems likely that the legislature would like to be paid more (which would mean a big increase in taxes), does this mean this bill is guaranteed to become a law? Explain your answer.
- A country in the Middle East is suspected of having weapons and having hatred towards the United States because of differences in beliefs. The president orders the armed forces to attack this country. Can this abuse of power be prevented, and how?
Remember, you can use your thinking maps on Tuesday, so make sure your bubble maps, and your tree maps are accurate, and detailed. If you are really interested in doing your best work on Tuesday, then you will write out detailed responses to the questions, check your answers against all of the text, and then participate in the class discussion on Monday.
