Persuasive Speeches Implore, Inform and Intrigue

The persuasive speeches today asked for support (implore), informed or taught us about issues facing us here, in Hawai’i, and intrigued us with “new” information. For example, we learned how we can get involved with protecting endangered species like the Hawaiian monk seal or the Hawaiian hoary bat, and we learned about a new drug that is plaguing Hawai’i. We also heard a convincing argument about why we should have a new uniform (less formal, thinner so not so hot).
Although many of us have heard about or been touched by unemployment in some way, hearing firsthand how it affects one family really touched the heart. I know that I immediately thought of ways I could lend a helping hand to this ‘ohana. I implore all of you to help the less fortunate too.
The best part – this was just the first of many persuasive speeches. There will be written and presented throughout the year. Congratulations to one and all! I know that the next one will be even better!!
Which presentation was memorable to you and why? What are three speaking or oratory skills you learned from this experience? Remember, I am looking for a minimum of three powerful statements from you when you comment, not just one long run-on sentence.
Photo coming tomorrow- stay tuned! Oh, and check the video on the last blog post. It seems to be fine now.

I think that Kaohu’s speech was one to remember because he could relate to it. When you can relate to something and put yourself out there it touches peoples hearts. I learned that when you want to persuade a group of people/person you have to really sell yourself, you have to use expression an not a steady tone of voice. You have to speak loud so that everybody can hear you. Last you need to be fluent in what you say. Being prepared can help with that.

One presentation that really stood out to me was Kaila’s persuasive speech. It talked about how plants and animals are threatened, and endangered. I thought that it was memorable because it reminds me of when I went to Akaka Falls and saw how much weeds were covering up the native plants. It made me feel like how I can make a difference. Three skills I would recommend to others that have to do a speech in front of people would be be confident in what you say. If you feel confident, you won’t be thinking of unsure things. Another thing is to sound interesting so that you don’t lose your audience. The last skill that I would say is if you mess up on a line, skip it and make like nothing happened. Your audience doesn’t know what your paper looks like. I hope that some day, someone will use this tips.

I think Seasha’s speech stood out. She had hard, strong facts, to back up her facts she had programs/organization to help people. While she recited her speech she was clear and didn’t hesitate. I think Saesha did an great job!

The most memorable speech to me was Nafe’s because when he was saying his speech i could tell he felt strongly about his topic. Three skills i would recommend to others is to be prepared, NEVER underestimate the power of being prepared. 2nd choose a topic that means something to you so it is easy to talk about and it is also easy to use more expression. Last interact with your audience, it will keep their attention on YOU and your speech it will also keep them listening and wondering what’s going to happen next!!!!!!

One speech that stood out to me was Chasen’s speech. One part that pulled me in and made me interested was when he told us that how would we feel to not have a home? I really thought that his speech connected to mine. Unemployment is like taking away your house and all your money. It really destroys or doesn’t help out the person just like his endangered animal. I thought about how i would feel if my house got taken away. I would go CRAZY!

I think the most memorable speech was Nafe’s because no one els did that topic. He also gave lots of good facts to not wear uniforms. He really was persuasive. So to me Nafe’s speech was memorable.

I think Kaohu’s was memorable. I think it is sad that people go through unemployment. It is hard to get a job my mom says.

NAFE’S SPEECH WAS MEMORBLE TO ME BECAUSE HE WAS EXPICEING HIS FEELING ABOUT OUR UINFORMS. THREE SKILS THAT I WOULD RECOMMOND IS NEVER JUGE SOMEONE BY HOW THEY DO STUFF. 2ND IS TO KEEP YOUR ADUCINCE ADTION BECAUSE I EXPIRNCED WHEN I SAID MY SPEECH SOME PEOPLE WERE NOT EVEN PAYING ATION TO ME. AND LAST SAY ANY THING WITH EXPRSIION. SOMEPEOPLES SPEECHES WERE SAID WITH EXPERSSTION I WAS IN TO IT. WITH SOME PEOPLES I WANTED TO KNOW MORE.

I think that Kaohu’s speech was the best because he had a personal connection and that really touched my heart. One thing that I recommend as a expectation for speeches is be loud, be heard. Another thing that I recommend is eye contact, look at you audience. Don’t just talk, have expression. The last thing that I recommend is have confidence. If you don’t then you might not be able to do anything in front of a audience.

One speech that really stood out to me was Nafe’s speech. He talked about why we shouldn’t have uniforms. I also liked Kaohu’s speech because it really related to his own family and got the audience really persuaded on why we should help try to stop employment. One skill I learned was to always have eye contact with your audience so that they will not think your nervous. If you don’t want to look your audience straight in the eye you could always look to the back of the room. Another skill is to make your speech sound interesting. You need to sound exited about your speech so you don’t loose your audience. The last skill is that if you ever get lost and you forget your speech you should go to something you do remember. It doesn’t really matter if you say something that you remember and end early because the audience won’t see your speech. I had a lot of fun listening to everyone’s speeches.

The most memorable speech was Ho’onani’s because there was lots of detail and it’s about a hawaiian animal most people like so, the topic was a great choice. Ho’onani’s speech was exciting and also her speech reeled me in with the beginning sentence. The feed back I got was to not stay in one tone of voice the whole time but, to change the tone when I ask a question. I also got feed back on my topic because i need to focus in on one plant or animal.

i really wasn’t there when you guys were saying the speeches but i did be able to here Saesha’s and Emily’s speech. if i had to pick which was the most memorable speech would be Saesha’s speech.

oops forgot another sentence. i remember that one because my neighbor has like 20 cats and doesn’t have enough money to spade and nuder them (maybe i could suggest to try the animal shelter).

I think Nafes speech was memorable cause no one was expecting that from Nafe!one speeking oratory i learned was never uderestimate being ready for something. And to always come prepared.and i connect with nafe with not having uniforms cause it does not let us show or express ourselves.:)

One speech that stood out to me was Kaohu’s speech because his persuasive speech was about unemployment and he was researching something that has and is happening to him and probably alot more people. i think he chose a good topic because he knows he is not the only family out there facing unemployment but there is a tun of other people and families facing unemployment and it is really heart touching to us and him and he had the courage to say that his own family was facing unemployment. Stay strong KAOHU!!!!!!!!

I think that Emily’s speech stood out to me because what will happen to all the poor animals that live in icy climates like penguins or polar bears. One part that pulled me in was when she said that it doesn’t seem to be getting better. I think that Emily chose the right topic and she convinced me.

One persuasive speech that I thought was awsome was Mia’s. Mias speech stood out to me because of three different things. 1 she had good facts. 2 was that she had a short but clear speach. 3 was that you could tell that Mia did want a change in others diet. She most likely chose this because maybe she researched and saw how big this problem is. Mia said the main things that would happen and did not keep going on about what the effects were. Mia knew what she wanted so it seemed easier for her to say her speech. I admired that she knew exactly what she wanted to say. That is why I enjoyed Mia’s talk.

What stood out to me was Kaohu’s speech. His speech made me feel sad:(. Unemployment is something that everyone can be related to. His speech was very good. It was also good because Kaohu could relate to his topic which was unemployment.

i think that saesha’s speech stood out because her speech was about spaying and neutering cats because there are too many of them in Hawaii. My neighbor has a lot of cats and doesn’t have enough money to spay and neuter them. I will suggest the Humane Society for neutering and spaying his cats for a lower price.
