Mahalo to Our Football Team in Supporting Our Community!

Filled with kupuna and loea (experts) in traditional Hawaiian practices, the Junior Varsity and Varsity Football Teams assisted at the Sangha Hall for Aunty Doreen Henderson recognizing her students that have graduated in the art of Hawaiian feather work on Sunday, September 09, 2012.  We are proud of our our Kamehameha students who participated in the serving of the dinner for our kupuna and other community members.  Many had positive comments and were thrilled to have our students present.  Their presence was heartfelt.  Mahalo nui to the football coaches for their kokua as the face of Kamehameha continues to shine forth with PONO and the duty of aloha and care!  Mahalo!

Kamehameha Schools Athletics Begin

Aloha kakou!

As we begin the school year, we acknowledge the start of our athletic sports.

On Friday, August 10th, our Kamehameha Warriors Football men took the field facing the Na Koa of Ke Kula Kaiapuni o Anuenue.  The meeting of both team started at thepa hulaat 3:30pm where Kamehameha welcomed Anuenue and their ‘ohana upon the school’s site.  Poised in chant and exchange of aloha — much was acknowledged and appreciated as Kamehameha School took part of it’sHo’okipa.  Coaches and faculty and staff members took part as witnesses to our duty of welcoming our guests.

That evening our Kamehameha Warriors faced again Anuenue’s Na Koa with a ha’a and exchange of gifts.  It was followed by an exciting match blessed periodically by the Kahikohala rain.  Our Kamehameha Warriors came ahead with a score of 25-6; however, the collegial gathering at the end of the game on the field with mele will forever be engraved in myna’au as it epitomizes thePONO that Kamehameha has with ourselves as a school.

Friday evening, the Kamehameha Warriors Volleyball Wahine took the court participating in the Hilo High Pre-Season tournament.  Kamehameha Warriors participated with two Varsity teams and their Junior Varsity team.  Our women played with class in their games against Hilo High, Honoka’a, Ka’u, and Pahoa.  The level of fun continued even as they played against each other!

I acknowledge the work that our coaches have put with our students.  Let’s continue to send them our aloha and best wishes as they continue through this season.

Much aloha a mahalo!

na’u, na Kumu Lehua
