Kamehameha Schools Athletics Begin

Aloha kakou!

As we begin the school year, we acknowledge the start of our athletic sports.

On Friday, August 10th, our Kamehameha Warriors Football men took the field facing the Na Koa of Ke Kula Kaiapuni o Anuenue.  The meeting of both team started at thepa hulaat 3:30pm where Kamehameha welcomed Anuenue and their ‘ohana upon the school’s site.  Poised in chant and exchange of aloha — much was acknowledged and appreciated as Kamehameha School took part of it’sHo’okipa.  Coaches and faculty and staff members took part as witnesses to our duty of welcoming our guests.

That evening our Kamehameha Warriors faced again Anuenue’s Na Koa with a ha’a and exchange of gifts.  It was followed by an exciting match blessed periodically by the Kahikohala rain.  Our Kamehameha Warriors came ahead with a score of 25-6; however, the collegial gathering at the end of the game on the field with mele will forever be engraved in myna’au as it epitomizes thePONO that Kamehameha has with ourselves as a school.

Friday evening, the Kamehameha Warriors Volleyball Wahine took the court participating in the Hilo High Pre-Season tournament.  Kamehameha Warriors participated with two Varsity teams and their Junior Varsity team.  Our women played with class in their games against Hilo High, Honoka’a, Ka’u, and Pahoa.  The level of fun continued even as they played against each other!

I acknowledge the work that our coaches have put with our students.  Let’s continue to send them our aloha and best wishes as they continue through this season.

Much aloha a mahalo!

na’u, na Kumu Lehua

E O Mai e Na Pua a Kamehameha – Welcome Back!

He leo aloha keia ia ‘oukou e na haumana, na ‘ohana, na kumu, na kako’o a Kamehameha!

Change is inevitable! And indeed this year is a year of such change.  As we begin this school year with anticipation of the arrival of our students on August 6, 2012, we understand the amount of work that lie ahead of us in order for our students to move progressively forward academically, socially, physically, and spiritually.  This movement is done most effectively with all of us knowing that we have a DUTY OF ALOHA AND CARE. Success of such occurs when we are reflective of where we have been, where we are, and where we are going.  We embrace the teachings and the vision of Ka Lani Pauahi.  We honor genealogies and histories. We respect the lands and communities that we have come from.  Our work is done with integrity, with humility, and with transparency.

I am much grateful for the time that I have spent with the faculty and staff of Kamehameha during the opening sessions (August 1-3, 2012).  I see the passion for education….I see the compassion for our ‘opio.  I send to the members of the faculty and staff my deepest aloha for their dedication and commitment in moving forward our school.

To our ‘ohana and community members, I look forward to working and communicating with all of you throughout the school year.  May we come together in the spirit of our Ali’i and give with pono and aloha so that our ‘opio will be clear reflections of our people, our kupuna, our ‘ohana.

Me ke aloha nui ia ‘oukou a pau no ka pono o na ‘opio, na ‘ohana, me na kaiaulu o Kamehameha.  Na ke Akua e alaka’i a kia’i ia kakou a pau!

Aloha a Mahalo!
