To create the world of your Huaka’i world through sound, you are using several different elements of audio.\u00a0 In this case, music AND 3 sound effects.\u00a0 Besides these elements, there are also dialogue, narration, and ambience (atmosphere).<\/p>\n

We learned about MOS when we are shooting to signify there is no synchronized audio to be recorded.\u00a0 Once everything is edited, 2 more fancy terms can be utilized.\u00a0 Use these words to impress people . . . Diegetic and Non-diegetic.<\/p>\n

These terms describe the way sound is being used in a movie.\u00a0 Diagetic sound comes from the world of\u00a0 the movie meaning it’s source is seen in the movie or implied to come for it.<\/p>\n

Non-diagetic describes audio that does not come from the space of the film.\u00a0 Think of music from a soundtrack.\u00a0 It enhances the story, but does not come from the story itself.<\/p>\n

Usually music videos have just NON-DIEGETIC audio, but Ed Sheeran’s video “Don’t” has an interesting mix of both.\u00a0 Take look at this video and take notice of the creative use of diegetic and non-diegetic audio.<\/p>\n
