MOYA – Month Of the Young Adolescent“MOYA? Who’s that? Is it a girl?” Was a question I over heard from a student as the daily bulletin was read aloud to a class. If you, like the student, do not know who or what MOYA is, please continue reading. MOYA or Month Of the Young Adolescent is celebrated in October by middle schools across the nation.  Those who work with adolescents, 10 – 15 year old, understand how complex this stage of life can be for the child and for the family.  The goal of MOYA is to emphasize how collaborative partnerships between the school, the family and the community can help transition adolescents to become productive and contributing members of society.  KMS celebrates MOYA in a number of ways – Back To School Days, Teen Read Week, the Ohana Fun Run, and the MOYA Activity.
