Service Learning Opportunties/Resources

Service learning is a teaching method that actively engages students in the development of solutions to real and meaningful problems within the community and school through the integraton of academic content areas and personal reflection.  Please preview the following list of service learning conferences/workshops to help you learn more about how to implement and assess a service learning project.  Complete a Pers 35 for conference registration, if necessary.

KAUPA- Kalihi Ahupuaa Ulu Pono Ahahui – is a non-profit organization located in the Kalihi area.  KMS has partnered with KAUPA, providing service on October 11, ’08.  Also during  the ’08-’09 school year, money raised from the MOYA Recyling Activity ($401.01)  went to purchase rocks for the rock wall to reduce erosion into the Kalihi Stream.  Opportunties to provide service at KAUPA are available on the second Saturday of each month.  Preview the KAUPA monthly newsletter below.http://hosted.verticalresponse.com/408069/6722fb9ea7/1543000503/317cfbe3ed/

City & County Earth Monthly Teen Video Contest - Kamehameha has partnered with the City & County of Honolulu.  In an invitation ONLY contest, KMS has been asked to participate in the annual Earth Month Teen Video Contest because of our school’s participation in community service.  The “kick-off” for this event will be on November 4.  The video topic this year is – “Non-Source Point and Run-Off Pollution (trash and sediment) and Actual Conservation.”  Please contact the SAC x3476 by October 4 if you will be particiatping in this afternoon kick-off.  Click on the link below to find out more details about this contest.
