Advanced Placement Japanese is also offered. Two consecutive years of the same language are required for graduation from Kamehameha. (Note: A fourth year or higher in any language, taken in grade 12, meets one of the grade 12 requirements for an Honors diploma. See Honors Program section for more information.)<\/p>\n<div class=\"iconbox iconbox_large iconbox_left\"><span class=\"iconbox_icon\"><i class=\"icon-exclamation\" style=\"color:#ffffff\"><\/i><\/span><div class=\"iconbox_content\"><div class=\"iconbox_desc\">\n<h3>\u02bb\u014clelo Hawai\u02bbi (Hawaiian Language) Proficiency<\/h3>\n<h4>Classes 2020 and 2021<\/h4>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 10px;\">All Kamehameha High School students, regardless of prior Hawaiian language study or experience, must demonstrate a level of Hawaiian language proficiency in the areas of listening, reading, speaking and writing:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Through a series of assessments <b>OR<\/b><\/li>\n<li>C- or higher in the second semester of Hawaiian 1 along with current Hawaiian 1 teacher recommendation <b>OR<\/b><\/li>\n<li>Department head approval in consultation with high school administration<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h4>Classes 2022 and Beyond<\/h4>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 10px;\">All Kamehameha High School students, regardless of prior Hawaiian language study or experience, must demonstrate a level of Hawaiian language proficiency through:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Satisfactory completion of Hawaiian 1 and 2 <b>OR<\/b><\/li>\n<li>Departmental approval (which may include assessment)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n<h2>THE SUMMER PROGRAM<\/h2>\n<p>First year courses comparable to a full year in the grade 9-12 program are offered in Hawaiian, Japanese and Spanish.
