\"\"Overview<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Fifth Grade Band is offered to all fifth graders. This exploratory and introductory course is designed for students with no previous experience in playing band instruments including woodwind, brass and percussion.<\/p>\n

The students are introduced to the fundamentals of playing a band instrument and basic music concepts and theory. Classes will meet twice in a six-day cycle for forty minutes.<\/p>\n

As an outcome of this study the student will be able to produce a tone in characteristic of his\/her instrument, recognize and identify musical symbols and notation and perform exercises, rudiments, and music appropriate for a beginning band level. Also the students will understand multicultural context of music (similarities\/differences) integrated with chronological links to Hawaiian, American and World History.<\/p>\n

Lessons <\/span><\/p>\n

In band class the lessons are written in a continual unit to guide the students in a tiered learning process. Each lesson in a repetitive sequenced format reviews and introduces new musical elements in a developmental course of instrumental study and practice. In addition to method book exercises, full band arrangements are frequently incorporated into the daily lesson to enhance the learning of musical concepts, improve instrumental technique, support relationships between other disciplines and promote multicultural enrichment.<\/p>\n

In band class a learning environment of respect (aloha), teamwork (\u2018ohana) and cooperation (laulima) is developed and is encouraged throughout the school year.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n
