The special subject areas of our curricular program at Ke Kula Ha\u2018aha\u02bba \u2018o Kamehameha ma Kap\u0101lama encompass critical components designed to refocus learning through student-centered, culturally rich experiences and opportunities inspired by students\u2019 unique interests and talents. The diversity of our special subject programs prepares each student to meet their highest potential, grounding our haum\u0101na in Christian and Hawaiian values, and fostering an environment focused on the development of 21st century learners in a global community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Students have the opportunity to work with faculty whose expertise in these courses engage students in enriching experiences which strengthen students\u2019 abilities in \u2018\u014dlelo a mo\u2018omeheu Hawai\u2018i, the arts, Christian education, physical education, science, and technology and information literacy, as well as in the core academic subjects. We know that learning deepens when students can make personal connections both within and across disciplines. Specialist subjects and classroom-centered subjects are equal partners in this rich and diverse curriculum. The KES faculty continues to work collaboratively to build integrated, interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary lessons and units to foster greater connections across the curriculum.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The kahua of this work is found in the E Ola! Framework defining learner outcomes as the metaphor likening students to the array of plants in a thriving and diverse rain forest. As students engage in learning with our specialists, they can explore personal interests and talents in greater depth to enhance these areas of intellect and ability. Students are developing these passions and interests, and their experiences in special subject areas opens doors to bringing these to life for each individual student, contributing to the ongoing development of their ability to cultivate their own well-being.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
