Complete Dance Project 7×5
Final Steps – Framing

Method 1
- Flatten image
- Duplicate the layer
- Click on background layer and fill with white
- Click on layer 1, Cm-T, resize, hold shift/option, this will resize from center in
- Get a space or framed area around image
- to select the image, Cm-click on the thumbnail in layer window
- Make a layer mask
- Gaussian blur the edge, be careful on the amount
- This will put a soft edge around the image
- You can filter this blurred edge, select filter-pixelate-color halftone- use 45 on all
- You should try different ones to get your desired effect.
- put designed by (your name) at the bottom right
- Save as psd, flatten, save as tiff
- Put tiff on flashdrive, red one

Method 2
- Flatten image
- Duplicate the layer
- Click on background layer and fill with white
- click on layer 1 and duplicate, turn off duplicate
- work on layer 1, filter-gaussian blur, take down opacity of layer
- work on layer 2, Cm-T, hold shift-option, resize
- using blending options, put stroke, use other options
- put designed by (your name) at the bottom right
- Save as psd, flatten, save as tiff
- Put tiff on flashdrive, red one

1- Evaluate your Dodge/Burn project

- find your print, put your name on the back
- answer the following questions on another paper or you may word process

a- List the things that you did to enhance the picture, use terms such as multiply, color burn, screen, color dodge, indicate where you did this.

b- What effect does the enhanced version have over the original?

c- What other changes or improvements could you have done?

d- Using this scale of 1-5, rate your work
5- Wow, great effect
4- This is better than original
3- This is slightly better than original
2- Hard to tell which is better
1- The original is better

e- Why the rating, what in your version leads you to this rating?

Turn in your evaluation with your printed work.

2. Today’s project – Dance pictures

- Using the following:
- your workspace is 7×5, 240 ppi
- cut out, feather 3 px
- too dark duplicate and screen layer
- find a background, enhance using layer adjustments and clip it
- move onto your workspace, adjust size, position
- lighting effects
- merge layers, icon in the history window
- using history brush to adjust lighting
- put your name on the bottom right
- save as a tiff
- put on the flashdrive

Complete the dodge/burn project
- Follow the directions on Monday’s agenda
- Make sure you put your name on all three prints and label which is the original
- Put the file that you want printed on the black flashdrive with the green lanyard located on the clipboard.

You will need to finish Mr. Chow’s projects as the trimester will end soon. His grade will be averaged with mine.

Dodge and Burn Project – 3 different pictures
- using letter, 240 ppi, rgb color
- each letter will have 2 pictures on it
- one is the original, and other is the dodge/burn
- label each

Using dodge/burn tech
- open public/techclass/photolibrary
- copy dodge-burn to desktop
- open originals 1, 2 or 4 , there’s no 3
- select picture you want to work with, move to your workspace
- duplicate the image, rename 1st layer original
- work on the duplicate
- open History palette

Using History
- click on the last entry, put icon in the box
- using the art history brush
- adjust mode and opacity
- mode, use mulitply to darken, screen to lighten
- color burn darkens colors, color dodge lightens colors
- use opacity to color the amount of effect
- always evaluate what you’ve done before continuing
- difficult to go back too many steps
- Remember goal is to have a realistic enhance version

When completed with 3 different pictures
- put name on with number indicating which, example: keani1-db.tif
- flatten, save as a tiff, print all 3, turn in printed versions, name on back
- of the 3 select 1 that you would like printed on our 3800 printer
- put this one on the black flash drive with the green lanyard
