With some of my happy haumāna papa 2016 Block 4!

Aloha. ʻO au ʻo Kumu Kapulani Antonio. I started my teaching career in Hawaiian Language/Hawaiian Studies at Ke Kulanui o Hawaiʻi ma Hilo – the University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo. In addition to teaching, I worked as a curriculum developer and editor at Ka Hale Kuamoʻo, a curriculum development center which supported Hawaiian Immersion schools throughout Hawai ‘i.

After ten years of teaching & working on Hawaiʻi island, we moved to Maui nei. I continued developing curriculum at the Kula Kaiapuni at both Pāʻia and Kalama then joined the Hawaiian Studies faculty at then Maui Community College and UH Center.

I started as a high school kumu in Hawaiian language here at Kamehameha Maui in 2004. Eventually I switched over to Hawaiian History, a graduation requirement, in order to have every student.

I love teaching our moʻolelo to the Seniors. Hopefully, it solidifies that foundation we’ve all been building during their years here. Hopefully, it makes them confident and proud as young, educated Hawaiians. Hopefully, it not only feeds their intellect but their souls as well, so that they will become the confident, enlightened, grounded leaders we want them to be.
