Uncle Kawika shares his kuleana w\/5B FISH!<\/p><\/div>\n

What a blessing! \u00a0The FISH!, on our quest to dive deeper into our essential question, \u201cWhat is our Kuleana?\u02bb invited our own Uncle Kawika Lewis into our FISH!bowl! \u00a0We know the word kuleana, we know the definition of kuleana, and now…we had the opportunity to hear how Uncle Kawika puts his kuleana into \u201caction!\u201d \u00a0Like we say in class, knowing is NOT enough, we must put \u02bbike into action.<\/p>\n

EQ: What is Our Kuleana<\/p><\/div>\n

Uncle Kawika began his sharing by telling us, \u201cIf you love what you do, you\u02bbll never work a day in your life!\u201d \u00a0He shared about his growing up days and how he treasures the \u02bbike he received from his kupuna. \u00a0He emphasized the importance of watching and listening to learn and how he gained so much by doing just that. \u00a0Respect, responsibility, and work ethic are the foundations of his ohana. \u00a0He reminded us that not all learning comes from one place…he said, the \u02bb\u0101ina is alive! The \u02bbaina will teach you too…if you choose to pay attention!<\/p>\n

Some of the main points of learning from Uncle Kawika:<\/h2>\n

K<\/b>-K\u014dkua-Give back; help someone; take the initiative to offer help.<\/p>\n

U<\/b>– Ku<\/u>puna-Show respect for k\u016bpuna as they have valuable mana\u02bbo<\/p>\n

L<\/b>– Lawena-Attitude is everything!; Work hard for a good attitude; acknowledge people as you get what you give!<\/p>\n

E-<\/b> \u02bbIke<\/u>– Knowledge-Always keep learning: It helps to make better decisions for yourself, ohana, and l\u0101hui.<\/p>\n

A<\/b>– Aloha-Care and love are deep inside of you- it is passed down through the generations; share it! If you share it, it will return to you 10x more! \u00a0Aloha aku, Aloha mai!<\/p>\n

N<\/b>– \u02bb\u0100in<\/u>a- \u02bb\u0100i-Food- \u02bb\u0100ina is like food…it feeds you, it nourishes your body, mind, and na\u02bbau<\/p>\n

A<\/b>– Ha<\/u>nauna Hou- For the future generations; the next generation- Always teach the next generation to care for the \u02bb\u0101ina & it will continue forever<\/p>\n

Uncle Kawika\u02bbs passion & kuleana is alive at \u02bb\u0100ina University, a 335 \"\"<\/a>acre parcel in the hills of Pauka\u02bba…where he says the curriculum is the \u02bb\u0101ina! \u00a0There he teaches people how to sustain themselves. \u00a0He gathers & grows food that is both edible and aesthethically pleasing and connected to our culture!<\/p>\n

His parting words of wisdom…\u201dKuleana is to plant a seed in people!\u201d Share your mana\u02bbo to help other understand their kuleana! \u00a0He feels that he is blessed, he always counts his blessings and shares it by speaking with others! \u00a0 He reminded us that ha\u02bbaha\u02bba and hana kupono are important…as every koho (choice) brings a hopena (consequence). \u00a0Everyone is part of the wa\u02bba, jump in…everyone works!<\/p>\n
