{"id":6187,"date":"2015-01-09T13:14:44","date_gmt":"2015-01-09T23:14:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogsksbeedu.wpenginepowered.com\/kaahhee\/?p=6187"},"modified":"2015-01-10T08:35:15","modified_gmt":"2015-01-10T18:35:15","slug":"michigan","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/blogs.ksbe.edu\/kaahhee\/2015\/01\/09\/michigan\/","title":{"rendered":"Ho&#8217;okipa MICHIGAN"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/iframeid=vp1DroFWtitle=VideoPlayerwidth=640height=360frameborder=0src=https:\/\/s3.amazonaws.com\/embed.animoto.com\/play.html?w=swf\/production\/vp1&amp;e=1420861142&amp;f=DroFWOoQAAObiyOo78ESjQ&amp;d=0&amp;m=a&amp;r=360p&amp;volume=100&amp;start_res=360p&amp;i=m&amp;asset_domain=s3-p.animoto.com&amp;animoto_domain=animoto.com&amp;options=allowfullscreen\/iframe\">http:\/\/<iframe loading=\"lazy\" id=\"vp1DroFW\" title=\"Video Player\" src=\"https:\/\/s3.amazonaws.com\/embed.animoto.com\/play.html?w=swf\/production\/vp1&amp;e=1420861142&amp;f=DroFWOoQAAObiyOo78ESjQ&amp;d=0&amp;m=a&amp;r=360p&amp;volume=100&amp;start_res=360p&amp;i=m&amp;asset_domain=s3-p.animoto.com&amp;animoto_domain=animoto.com&amp;options=\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Today, Papa &#8216;Elima (Gr. 5) haum\u00e5na welcomed guests from Albion College in Michigan to class. \u00a0We began with a ho&#8217;okipa (welcome) where Mrs. Pai oli&#8217;d on behalf of our guest and the rest of us oli&#8217;d to welcome them to our campus! \u00a0The students in 5B began by welcoming the college Freshmen to our classroom and shared how the current lava flow is impacting our island using their ipads and techie skills. \u00a0They shared legends of Pele, and shared their mana&#8217;o on the financial, government, social &amp; emotional impacts, as well as innovations on how electric poles were redesigned in order to not interrupt service for the people of Pahoa as lava flowed.<\/p>\n<p>The students also shared legend on how Hilo got its name and the cultural significance behind making a kupe&#8217;e (bracelet)and connections between the two. \u00a0The kupe&#8217;e wards off negativity and provides protection and brings positive energy for safe journey&#8230;which was so fitting as our guests were on huaka&#8217;i (field trip) all the way from Michigan. \u00a0The students demonstrated, instructed, coached and cheered on our guests as they made their own kupe&#8217;e! \u00a0All the while all shared with positive thoughts as that positive mana will transfer to the kupe&#8217;e.<\/p>\n<p>As the day went on, pa&#8217;a pilina (old relationships) were renewed (Mrs. Pai and Mrs. Kawakami and Mrs. Henke were friends and colleagues for many years) and new pilina was formed with all the students and teachers&#8230;young and old! \u00a0Click on the comments link to see what our students thought of this priceless learning experience &amp; \u00a0wonderful day&#8230;Read the comments on how proud they were to share our Hawaiian culture as well as learn from our new friends! \u00a0Michigan entered our campus as guests and continued on their journey of our wonderful moku o keawe (Big Island) as friends!
