Trimester 2

November 9th, 2009 by jemakanu

Aloha e na makua,

We have successfully completed the first trimester:

  • The students met the challenges that were presented to them.
  • There were many highlights, some lowlights, frustration, and lots of laughs!

Please continue to monitor your child’s planner and KS Connect, as well as this blog.  I will try to keep it updated regularly.

In trimester 2, the students will be doing more research papers and essays.  With all assigments in my class, and especially major projects and essays, students are not given the choice to “take the easy way out.”  What this means is that I do not accept their work until it is complete and error free.   A student may need to correct his work once, twice, maybe even a dozen times before I will grade the work.  They know that the lowest possible grade in this scenario is a 70, regardless of if they are on their 12th re-do, however, it will appear in the gradebook as a missing, until the work is complete and correct.

My intent is that they learn how to self-edit and self-correct during the process, eventually being able to self-edit and self-correct before turning in their final work.  For the most part in the first trimester, this process was successful.  It also allows me a better opportunity to work with those who may need some extra time and help.

Should you have any questions, please don’t hesistate to contact me.  < [email protected] >

Mahalo a nui for your continued support!
