Published Authors and Illustrators

We are in the final stages of writing and illustrating our class book about ocean animals. Our inquiry lesson began with students asking wondering questions about our ocean and animals that live in that habitat. Each student then chose an animal to investigate. They used used books and articles on the Internet to search for facts. They completed their research and used it to write an informative text about their topic. We are excited to share our learning and understanding to others!

Geometry Performance Task

Students are getting ready for our Geometry test tomorrow! They worked in groups to make a wall using 3 dimensional blocks. 1 block needed to have a curved surface and the other block must have only flat surfaces. After building a tower they had to build 2 more towers. 3 towers need to be the same to create a wall.

Girl’s Day

Our class learned about Girl’s Day. It began in China and was adopted in Japan over a thousand years ago. It is celebrated on March 3 and is also known as Hina Matsuri (Doll Festival).
In some homes, Japanese families display a set of dolls and doll furniture from the ancient royal court. Some brought their dolls to class and shared. We practiced our speaking and listening skills. To celebrate Girl’s Day we also made Japanese dolls. Girl’s in Hawaii also celebrate, though not in the same way that Japanese girls do. It is a day for families to show their aloha for their daughters Hawaiian style! It was a day to learn about our cultural values across the Pacific Ocean!

Today we celebrated Dr. Seuss’ Birthday and Read Across America. Mrs. Wicklund put on a funny hat and read to our class. We enjoyed listening to Dr. Seuss’s ABC book and thinking of words that begin with the letters of the alphabet. It was a Delightful Dr. Seuss-y day!
