This project began with a simple idea – A group of teachers, each with an iPad, exploring the ways in which the tool could impact learning.
The iPads were provided through an Emerging Technology grant from Kamehameha Schools written by Carmen Stack, K-5 Technology Teacher at Kamehameha Schools Hawai’i Campus. Carmen and Ellen Cordeiro, Kamehameha Schools Hawai’i Educational Technology Specialist, are spearheading this project.
The guidelines we use to review the apps on this blog can be downloaded here. Please feel free to use it and give us any feedback on it too! It is based on the Mobile App Review Rubric created by Palm Beach County Schools and Edudemic.com. Another great Educational App Review Rubric, originally created by Harry Walker, the principal at Sandy Plains Elementary School, and edited by Kathy Schrock, can be found here.
The students at our school do not currently use iPads. This PLC is providing teachers the opportunity to explore, evaluate, create, critique, applaud, and celebrate the creative use of iPads in education. We will be prepared for that day when each of our students receives their own iPad!
