For 19 years, our kula has held a Speech Festival for students in grades K-5. Coordinated and nurtured by our former 5th grade kumu, Mrs. Nani Pai, every student participates by choosing a poem, fable moʻolelo and even a debatable topic. Semi-finalists are chosen from each class with the finalists selected to perform in front over 350 students, faculty, staff and parents/ʻohana.
In honor of Mrs. Pai, we re-named the speech festival to, “Lamakū“, the torch or the best, the light, will lead the way. We want our haumāna to strive for excellence, to show their light and be the light for others. It is their kuleana to carry the torch from the past and in to the future. That is what Mrs. Pai expected from our keiki. We recognized Mrs. Pai today at our Lamakū event for leaving such a legacy for our students.
Mahalo to Mr. Kerry Kamisato, our middle school Digital Media teacher and his student, Kamakana Rodrigues who videoed the entire program this morning.

Hoʻomaikaʻi to all!
