This one of our class fish. Most people know it as a fighting fish. Itʻs also known as a Betta fish or Betta splendens. These fish come in all sorts of colors, are weak swimmers and portray aggressive behavior to other males or even their own reflection.
Betta fish are known as labyrinth fishes. They have a special gills that allow them to breath air when the water is low in dissolved oxygen.
They are also known as bubblenesters. It is the male Betta fish that creates a sticky bubble nest at the top of the water which will eventually hold the fish eggs. It is then the males job to protect the eggs.
