Homework
Grades K – 2 do not receive science homework.
Grade 3 – 5 will occasionally being assigned homework. If there is homework, students will write it in their planner during science class. I will initial their planner to make sure they have written the assignment and the due date.
Assignments are due the next day before 7:45 am as to minimize losing the assignment or forgetting to complete. In the past, waiting till the next rotation to collect increased lose of assignment and forgetting to complete. I will collect the homework in the morning at their grade level class.
If an assignments not turned in or incomplete I will stamp their planner as a notification to parent(s). I request that the parent(s) sign the planner. After this point, it is up to the student to turn in the assignment on their own. I will no longer chase student for their homework. Any assignment turned in after the due date and time, will be considered late and will result in a decrease in the assignments grade.
Absences, Classwork and Homework
“Always assume you have missed something in science if you are absent”, is what I tell my students. When they are absent from science, they miss key concepts, experiences and learning. Sometimes the learning and experiences can not be recreated due to the time constraints as a specials class. There are times where students can make up the classwork. It is up to the student to make arrangements with me to make up classwork. Students can check before school from 7:15 and after school for missed classwork or homework.
If absent when homework is given, it is up to the student to see me for work. Student will have one day to make up the work and turn in. I will not be chasing students for absent work. This is the students responsibility. It is also the students responsibility to turn in on their own.
If absent on due date of homework, I will check the next day they return from absence for the work. This will not be considered late. If however, they have not completed the assignment, I will stamp and it will be considered late.
