I think that it was a good thing that he saved all that stuff. Even though he would have to throw it away anyway, I still think it was a good thing for him to do. He saved the earth and that is pretty much the important thing. I liked the way he saved some stuff and then took it to the landfill. I think that he really wants to save the planet and go green. He only had a small amount of waste, while everybody else in the world wastes a whole bunch of trash and other things. I think he is a little bit crazy but what he did was a good deed. It is your own choice to go green or not. But I have one thing to say, just really think about global warming and the earth. GO GREEN!!!!!!!

I honestly think that saving your trash for a year is a great idea the guy is smart. I think that he over did it a little bit by taking his trash with him on his tip to Mexico. Now that is crazy but by doing that it really open up peoples eyes all around the world just by that little experiment. This really promotes going green, and since global warming is becoming a huge problem this will inspire people to help save the world I hope. I already am doing my part so I hope that everyone else will do theirs maybe not as extreme as Dave Chameides but just a little bit at a time.

I agree with ‘Alohi that it is our choice if we want to save the planet or not, and at first I thought this guy was crazy, but he is really showing what we can do to change the planet. I think that if people were educated on these topics and if they knew the facts, they would try their best to make a difference. That is probably the biggest problem that America has because they only teach the kids and the other people don’t have any time for “learning” anymore. Some of the kids are listening but not really learning sometimes and that is going to be the real difference into saving our planet. I mean we can all hear those 2 hour lectures and not get anything out of it while about half of the class is paying attention. These kinds of stories about people doing these acts are really inspiring to me because if they can do it, then we can. Maybe one day, these stories are going to spread to everyone and we might all follow these people who decide to change their ways to save others.

I think the guy did something very good for the earth.I think if i tried to do that my mom would get upset with me for keeping trash in the house.I think the guy really helped the environment by saving his trash.I think everybody should try that for at least for 1 month and see watch happens, the people might have a different perspective on saving the earth.I hope that guy has made an impact on the world as it made an impact on me.
October 26th, 2009 at 9:16 am
I think that this guy that saves his trash is doing a way better job than most Americans because in the article they said an average person wastes about 900 pounds of waste a year and he only wasted 30 pounds in 8 months so he just did a very good thing and if he keeps this going he’ll only have like 55 pounds of waste by the end of the year. I believe that if everyone in the U.S.A. does what the guy is doing then we will be, become, and will soon like the way the way we have our country set for the future years for our next generations. And if we be like him then we won’t have such big problems in money wise and environment wise.
October 26th, 2009 at 9:17 am
i think the action that was done was very good because he was trying to change his whole life and using the best alternate way to save the earth. I think that it is somewhat overdone because he saved everything from the time period he started to save all the waste. I hope everyone could be like that but don’t save all their waste but use alternate ways of helping the earth.
October 26th, 2009 at 9:22 am
I thought that it was a good idea to save all those things because you can see how much you waste in a year. It could also help to reduce your waste because you wouldn’t want to be saving something that would have an odor. If i were doing that i would probably try to only waste things that were light weight. I think he really wants to save the planet because by saving your own trash it won’t go into a landfill. If everyone were to do that for a year the landfills would look really different. Going green is good because if we don’t we’re gonna die sooner, so if you don’t wanna die GO GREEN!
October 26th, 2009 at 9:23 am
I feel that what Dave did was a smart thing to do. He saved his trash which help saved our planet. An average American 900 pounds in 8 months while Dave only wasted 30 pounds. Dave wasted 30 times less. If Dave can keep his trash for 8 months, then we as Americans can help save at least some of our own waste. So lets come together an help save what we damaged.
October 26th, 2009 at 9:49 am
I think it’s cool that he saved so much trash, but I wouldn’t do that. I couldn’t stand leaving trash around it’s so gross!!! Anyways when he said he had bottles then he should recycle those and reuse plastic containers. It probraly would make an impact on the landfill which is good. I think he’s more trying to make a message to not waste trash and that jazz. If I were the wife i would be freaking out. Anyways it was great that he’s trying to reduce his waste but try something else dude you have a family!! GO GREEEENNNNNN!!!!!!!!
October 26th, 2009 at 10:15 am
I think its good that he’s trying to do this experament because it helps the environment and it also shows how much trash one person makes in one year so it can show other people how much of an impact they probably make incouraging them to go green too
October 26th, 2009 at 10:16 am
I think that his project was a worldwide project because it had affected everyone and when everyone finds out what they waste every year they might think its a lot and not waste that much anymore. If that happened then the layer around are earth will stop getting thinner from the global warming. If this actually affects everyone then we will make a big difference in our whole world. I also think that it was good that he was saving trash and making an observation because no on else would have done it. It even helped more wen he made a worm bucket to dispose of his waste it helped out a lot even though it was only him I think that this man made a really big part in going green
October 26th, 2009 at 10:19 am
I thought that article was quite interesting. I was astonished at the fact that a person at any time would want to collect garbage. I would say that is a very commited person to have odor carrying products in his home. It was also so thoughtful of him to think of others instead of himself. People need to learn how to care about others and not only care about themselves. People like that is what got us into this situation. The Americans may be very developed in money and technology, but we need to relearn how to take care of the earth that our ancestors were experts in. So by this man doing this is very good for our environment.
October 26th, 2009 at 10:20 am
I think that Dave Chameides had to be pretty committed to keeping his trash for a year because if you’re not it is really easy to just give up and throw the waste away. I also think that it was a good experiment to do and try. If he achieved all the eight months of collecting trash he can then determine what needs to be reduced and decreased in the amount they use. He was conserving and using a lot less trash than a regular human would. He must of been willing to save the planet and to decrease global warming. I also think that his family must of been irritated with him at points for saving things thought to be unnecessary to keep. If he told me personally what his experiment was I would of thought he was crazy at first. It’s unbelievable how much people waste in a year and how fast it is affecting our planet, so in that case I realize it is our responsibility to take care of the aina so that we won’t loose what we need most.
October 26th, 2009 at 10:21 am
I think that this was a good thing to do. He only wasted 30 pounds of rubbish. It was good for him to keep his rubbish for a long time and then show how much he wasted. I think it was smart when he got a whole bunch of worms and let them go in his basement.I think that he is trying to go green and is trying to keep the wast level down so our planet does not go more bad then it all ready is. I think that he is doing a good deed and more people should keep there wast level down so we have more space on our planet and so it is not that crowded. I think that every body should go green and not wast. It is good if we can fit all our trash in to a little room for eight months. WE SHOULD ALL GO GREEN.
October 26th, 2009 at 10:22 am
I think what this man is doing is excellent. He is saving his trash to save the environment. It is surprising to me that in eight months, he has produces only 30 pounds of waste while the average American produces 900 pounds of waste. He says this experiment is a contribution to the study of consumerism. It is great that he did everything he could to help the environment: using CFL’s, using a Prius hybrid car, and using solar panels. He also found many other ways to reduce waste. He is going green and we should start too by doing little things in our daily life that help the environment.
October 26th, 2009 at 10:55 am
It is a great that the he reduced his carbon footprint. I can tell that he really wants to help the planet. I am surprised that all that trash didn’t make his house stink. I think we should all go green like that guy did. If we were all like him we wouldn’t have global warming. He did a really good thing by saving his trash even though it seemed a little bit crazy. I hope that we can all go green like him.
October 26th, 2009 at 10:57 am
I think it was a great idea for Dave to see what he throws away during the year. The trash was like the way we treat the Earth. We really don’t care about it at all. We just leave our trash everywhere. One amazing fact that I learned from this article was that Dave only wasted 30 pounds in 8 months when a average American wastes 900 pounds. At first, I thought he was so crazy to do such a thing but I later learned that he is doing something good for the Earth and us. The main idea was that he was saving the Earth.
October 26th, 2009 at 10:58 am
This article was kind of interesting. Expecialy since his wife didn’t care about it that there is all of his trash in your basement. But it was really interesting that the average american has 900 lbs. of trash and he only had 30 pounds!! From this people can see that they can do so much more by not throwing EVERYTHING away. And by using less energy he had a whole less more waste. So people should try this. not to pile stuff up in your basement but to out things in the right place. if it can be put any where else than in the trash can or something that uses energy then don’t.
October 26th, 2009 at 11:05 am
I think that he showed that if you take little steps and alter your habits you can waste less. An example would be how a average American creates 900 pounds of waste in 8 months. However he only wasted 30 pounds in the same amount of time! It was also good that his workplace started to go green after his experiment went under way. His place of work added energy-efficient light bulbs, e-mailing assignments, start composting, and stop the use of plastic bottles.
October 26th, 2009 at 11:07 am
I think that guy is very crazy for keeping all his trash. If I were his daughter, I would certainly protest. His basement must really stink and he goes down there everyday to organize and throw out his trash. At least he is doing something but I think there are many other ways. He only has another whole half-year to endure. Good Luck.
October 26th, 2009 at 11:10 am
I thought that people should starts to act like this guy and we should use less waste because like the article said an average person wastes about 900 pounds of garbage in 8 months and this guy can only waste around 30 pounds in 8 months! That is a big difference. If all of us could do that that would be really amazing.
October 26th, 2009 at 11:11 am
This article really made me think about all the things we throw away. There is so many things that can be done to reduce waste. He is a good example of how how we all should be. He’s green! We need to think of ways we can go green before we do things otherwise our world will just become worse with pollution and waste. I think his wife was pretty supportive about the whole situation because I wouldn’t really like all that trash in my home. However I think she could off encouraged him more and be happy that they’re helping to make a difference in the world. People are the reason the world is dying. The Earth was just fine before humans came around. We messed up the earth o now we have to fix it. Everyone can make a difference for the better, you don’t have to save up all your trash. People can think about what happens after you use your product and buy things that can be reused or recycled. Together we can make a difference in the world
October 26th, 2009 at 12:50 pm
I think what he is doing is really great because it shows how much trash one person can generate. If each person generated 900 pounds of trash, then there would be 5,400,000,000,000 pounds of trash on the earth per year. If everyone tried to save their trash then they would see how much trash they generate. Every single piece of trash we generate buries the Earth more and more in rubbish and materials like plastic and styrofoam. We should learn by our mistakes and try to narrow down the world’s trash.
October 26th, 2009 at 1:14 pm
I think we waste way to much. I think thatʻs cool that he only wasted 30 pounds of waste, compared to the average 900 pound wasting American. GO GREEN!!!!!!
SAVE THE EARTH!!!!!!!
October 26th, 2009 at 1:16 pm
I think it is cool that he kept all of his trash and his wife was ok.
(900 pounds of an average person food waste.)
October 26th, 2009 at 1:36 pm
When I first read this article, i was thinking that this man went all out of saving his trash. He saved the ear wax from the doctors after he visited the emergency room for an ear infection. I was laughing when he actually brought his trash from Mexico and the Security guard stopped him because he saw the trash in a huge duffle bag. I would think that when he saved the pizza boxes it would’ve been infested with bugs because when you get pizza the oil rubs off on the box. I thought it was funny because his wife actually agreed to keep trash in her basement for a year. I guess she really loves him. Overall, I think this guy really cares for this planet because he switched to “green” products for his house. I loved this article.
October 26th, 2009 at 1:39 pm
I think this man is very inspiring. He Saves all his trash in his house and is trying to show the world how much we waste. I think if I saved all my waste for a year it would take up most of my house. I would probably realize how much us humans waste and what we put into the enviornment. I would try my best to not waste and reduce, reuse and recycle. This man is very smart and uses a good method to promote saving waste. If we all try this experiment, I think we would all waste less and and we would save the planet. We would all the enviornment and we would save the world!! TOGETHER WE CAN SAVE THE PLANET!!!
October 26th, 2009 at 1:39 pm
I think this experiment is cool and kind of funny because he took it really seriously. He was so serious about it that he even collected the trash he made while on vacation. This man is brave and o is his family members because if that was me I would not like to have a basement full of trash. To be honest I would never do something like this I’m not a big fan of having trash lying around my house. But, this man also shows us what it could look like if we don’t manage our waste and do our part.
October 26th, 2009 at 1:40 pm
i love this guy and how he likes to be one with the earth. lets all be like him and go green!!!!!!!
October 26th, 2009 at 1:41 pm
I think this guy is very smart. He is saving trash to show the rest of the world how much we waste. He is very inspiring and is probably having readers waste less. I am amazed of how much we waste. I probably wouldn’t do this myself but I’m glad he did.
October 26th, 2009 at 1:54 pm
I thought this story was very amazing because he did something that no one would ever imagine of doing. He made a stand for the enviorment. It also amazed me that the average person in America wastes about 900 pounds of trash in eight months. I knew that we waste a lot, but I never thought it would be this much. I have been truly inspired and I want to help out the Earth and the enviornment. I think that others should also take that story to heart, and to mind. We should become a green nation, and maybe, just maybe, we’ll be able to make an influence on the world. Rock on green world!
October 26th, 2009 at 2:31 pm
I thought this experiment was very interesting. Most people throw away their trash and instantly forget about it. By living in his trash and seeing it everyday, Dave Chameides was able to see how much he wastes and can work to reduce his trash.
I was amazed to hear that Americans waste 900 lbs of trash in 8 months per person! It was inspiring to learn that in 8 months Dave was able to produce only 30 lbs!
I admire his commitment to being green, but he was a little nuts to keep pizza boxes, bottles, cans, wrappers, and even hair all in his basement!!! Gross!
October 26th, 2009 at 2:44 pm
After reading the article, I think that it was a really neat idea for him to save all of the trash he made for one year. The article stated that an average American produces 900 pounds of waste a year, but he only wasted 30 pounds of waste. Even though he ended up throwing away the trash anyway, it was still inspiring for him to do that. I think that he taught a valuable lesson, and will help others to think before they throw anything away. If I were one of his family members, I would disapprove at first, but then I would think about it, and realize that he is making a change in our world.
October 26th, 2009 at 5:22 pm
I think that he isnt wierd at all because he saved all his trash for one year. I think thats pretty cool because it showed him ways to decrease his waste and trash in many different ways and inspired others to do the same. He is helping global warming and giving an example of how much trash we produce. How ever i do think it was weird when he asked for his hair clippings to be put in a bag when he got his hair cut. I thought it was weird because why would you want to keep your hair when its not on your head. I think everbody should do this but not to extreme measures like what he is doing. I think we should recycle and go green. We should reduce our trash and stop wasting. That should be our way of saying thanks to the earth for letting us live on it. We have to take care of what we have or else we wont have any more.
October 26th, 2009 at 6:40 pm
Before I even read the article I thought the guy was nuts for saving all his trash. But as I read I realized that although it may be gross in many different levels, it really made a statement. I know everybody says that one person can make a difference and they are right. They also speak of all these interesting ideas of how to save the planet. Their ideas may or may not work, but they will never know. This is because all they do is speak instead of taking action. Chameides showed that one person really can make a difference by putting themselves out there and trying new things. He also proved that it is possible for people, especially americans, to waste less.
October 26th, 2009 at 7:58 pm
I thought that this was a good experiment to do because he got to see how much trash he throws away. It was also good that he did this experiment because he influenced others to go green, just like how he did. He would bring glass containers to the fish market, instead of using plastic bags. That really helped the environment, even though it was something little. He influenced other people because his co-workers started to e-mail the papers instead of printing it out. They also changed their light bulbs so they were more energy efficient. And, he wasted a lot less than the average American.
October 26th, 2009 at 8:08 pm
I think that it was a good thing that he saved all of those cans and plastics etc. it showed that he cared for the land(aina) by recycling instead of just throwing it away, it also was a good thing by saving all of the plastics and things that can be recycled because he can make a lot Of money for just recycling, it can help him in his life, and show other people that it ain’t a bad thing to recycle all the time, or at least when things can be recycled. Another things that was good about him recycling is that it showed that going green is a good thing and not a bad thing, and by going green, you not only help the aina, but the aina also gives back to you, by giving you a place to live, money for you to survive, and all of the things that you need in order to live over here on earth. the last thing about him doing all this recycling is that, he can be a good leader, and show people that they should try to recycle to, and go green, and not trow everything away just because they think it is trash, no he shows that you should really take your time to try recycling, and go green, and see what happens to them in their life, because i can probably bet you that by him going green, he had a whole new experience in his life and it changed his life once he went green. i hope people try to go green and try to help the land(aina) so we can have a better economy, and can help your own self out in life:) GO GREEN HELP THE LAND(AINA)!!!
October 26th, 2009 at 8:48 pm
I thought that the guy was smart to save all of his waste and to see how much he wasted after a long period of time. He saved a lot of things that could have been thrown in the landfills which saved the earth. He wasted so much less than the average person. I wouldn’t have done what he did because I would have been to lazy to save all of my waste. He did a good thing for the planet. Everyone should try this and go green in their own way.
October 27th, 2009 at 11:12 am
Dave did a good thing by saving all of that trash from an eight month period. It was good because he was able to show the world what they were throwing away. I learned that on a eight month basis, an average american wastes about 900 pounds of trash. On that eight month basis, Dave produced only 30 pounds of waste. This was a good way to show the world how much trash you produce, but in the end, he would have to eventually throw it all away. This article has showed me how I can become a more greener person to help save the world. BEING GREEN IS COOL
))
October 27th, 2009 at 6:44 pm
I think he is doing a good thing. saving all his trash leads to less trash in landfills and it helps the earth. i think it was kind of weird of what he did but still it helped our planet and that’s all that matters. that story inspired me to go green and help save our earth. i hope that we can all recognize the good deed he did and follow his example.
October 27th, 2009 at 10:42 pm
I think that what he did was smart. He wanted to save the earth so he saved his trash. I think what he did was really great. I liked how he recycled the trash that needed to be recycled and I liked how composted his food waste. Its incredible what we can do to save the earth and it is so cool to see him show us how he wants to save the earth. We should do at least one thing to save the earth. That way we all did something that matters. GO GREEEEN!!!!!!!
October 28th, 2009 at 7:36 am
I think that the article was interesting because I wouldn’t thin that someone would do something like this just for an experiment. He also saved about 30 times less waste than an average American. By doing this he also found ways to not waste as much. He did things such as taking his own food and plates to work. He also had worms that he used for getting rid of some of the things that he saved. It’s a good a idea if you think about it because if we did this too we would also think of ways to cut down on our waste. His weird plan also influenced the people around him. They all just do small things like e-mailing things instead of printing them out and using energy efficient light bulbs. It shows you that it just takes one person to inspire and just a little to make a difference.
October 28th, 2009 at 8:04 am
When I first read this article, I was amazed. At first I thought that this man was crazy and smart at the same time. He kept all his trash to show the world how much we waste. If I had to save all my trash, I would try to recycle and waste less so my house wouldn’t be so crowded and I wouldn’t have to smell the stink. One of the facts that amazed me was that an average American wastes more that 900 lbs. a year. I was surprised that the wife could stand his thrash and the smell. SAVE THE EARTH!!!!!
October 28th, 2009 at 3:47 pm
I think that it was a cool experiment for that man to save all that trash. He did a good job of saving the environment. It was funny to think that someone would actually save his trash. I like the story when they where flying home from their vacation the had a bag that was full of trash he had made. I wonder how long it took him to finally get all that trash to the landfill. But in the end it was amazing that he only made 30 pounds of trash. Compared to an average American thats a big difference. An average American makes over 900 pounds of waste a year.
October 28th, 2009 at 5:36 pm
I think Dave Chameide had lots of trash in his house. I also didn’t know that a average American makes 900 pounds of garbage in eight months. I learned that packaging before buying a product and takes a glass container to the fish market to avoid the plastic wrapping. He also grabbed an army of worms to chew through the compost in his basement, and that he used his blender for the little crawlers to have there meal in. I think the world should use less paer and use technology instead of cutting trees done and making more waste/paper. I ca help by changing all of my light bulbs to CFLs and by recycling what I can.I think he is kind of crazy, but I get why he did this experiment. Even if people don’t lke to go green they still should because all of our waste is taking up the land that we live on. I think I couldn’t do this experiment because all of the waste would take up majority of the room in my house.DON’T WASTE!!!:D:P
October 28th, 2009 at 8:02 pm
Wow! I canʻt believe that he actually saved all that trash! To be honest, when I first thought about it, I didnʻt understand why anyone would want to save their trash, but when you really think about everything that people just throw away, you start to understand.
I think heʻs trying to say if everyone somehow reduces the amount of trash they produce, then the world can change. A small change from everyone can make a big difference, so it wouldnʻt hurt to try, right? Iʻm not saying that you have to keep all your trash, just reduce it. For inspiration, just think that you have to live with what you make.
October 28th, 2009 at 8:38 pm
What I think is it is pretty weird that he did that but even though it is a good idea because people may think he is crazy but after a while if more and more people start doing that the soon people will think of him as a leader not a crazy guy that keeps all of his trash. If everybody started to do this we could make a big impact on the world in a good way. Once everybody starts to do this we could actually save the earth. Some people may think like “ahh I don’t need to do it because I wont be able to change anything” but if everybody does there little part and everybody chips in then saving our planet won’t be so hard. People should not talk about how they could help out they should just do it. It is time for change and we can do it!!!!!!!!!!
October 28th, 2009 at 9:27 pm
I thought it was a great and a weird thing to do because 1. he’s helping the environment and 2. storing all his trash. He had done the right thing because for eight months he only wasted 30 lb. average American probably wastes approximately 900 lb. in that time. He has also inspired people to green or help the environment as well. Although you should help the environment, you dont need to. But later on in the future when the world is utterly ugly or destroyed will you regret not helping?
October 29th, 2009 at 12:00 pm
It was good that the man saved the trash. His family only wasted 30 lbs in 8 months and other people wasted more than 900 lbs. For doing all these things, he’s saving the environment. He will eventually have to throw his trash in the landfill. He’s a good role model for people and he’s good to the environment.
October 29th, 2009 at 12:08 pm
I think that he was a good man indeed. I think that it was really good that he helped the environment by saving his trash. This should tell everyone a message. What about sunrise, what about rain. It will all be gone if we don’t start going green NOW!!!!!!!!!!!
October 29th, 2009 at 12:23 pm
I think it was really good for him to keep all the trash, but eventually he will have to throw it out. He is saving the Earth and thats a good thing. I liked how he saved things then took them to the landfill. I think her really wants to go green and save the planet. What he did was a good deed but its kind of crazy. Its your idea, but think about global warming and what will happen to the Earth.
October 29th, 2009 at 12:34 pm
I think that keeping all his trash was kind of cool because When Dave adds all his trash up and sees how much trash one person can produce in a year. Maybe people seeing how much a single can produce maybe the world will take a better path and go green like recycling instead of throwing away plastic bottles.
October 29th, 2009 at 4:55 pm
I think that it was important for Dave Chameides to save his trash because it shows people the amount of trash that one person can make in couple months. He would have to throw everything that he had saved away but he learned how to save natural resources by reusing, and reusing items. I don’t think that he is crazy I think that he is trying to show the world that we have to start reducing our waist and amount of space we are taking up in the landfill. He was going green by thinking of unique ways of saving natural resources, and energy. He is making us think about our decisions we make every day and showing us how to go GREEN. So after reading about this man it makes me think about what I do every day.
October 29th, 2009 at 5:39 pm
I think that it was good, and bad that he kept all of his trash. The good thing was that he could see the amount that we waste, and he could see how he could improve the amount of things he buys. This was also helpful because it is teaching him how he can improve on buying less non recyclables, and only buying what he needs. The down side is that no matter what he does all his trash is still going to end up being waste. This guy is a little crazy for collecting all of his trash, but it helps him so that he can make our earth a better place. By doing this he taught a good lesson that you should only take what you need, and never waste what you have. Malama i ka aina, for a better future.
October 29th, 2009 at 7:14 pm
The man was smart to save all of his trash no mater where he was. If that was me I would have thrown it away and that would have hurt the earth, but that man showed the word how much trash a single person wastes in on year so I would like to say GO GREEN, there is a ton of ways to go green by reusing, recycle bottles, cans and glass.
October 29th, 2009 at 7:49 pm
I believed that the man showed a good example of how poorly we are treating our Earth now these days. Many of the trash items put in his basement were recyclable. Iʻm glad the man committed to that project, for it showed us how much trash we are putting in our landfills. After that year of trash being put into his basement, he wisely used the three Rʻs recycled, reduced, and reused all of the items that fell under one of those categories. The man is a good example of how we can change our ways and help the earth live well. GO GREEEEEEEENNNNNN!!!!!!!!!!
October 29th, 2009 at 7:50 pm
I think saving your trash is actually a great idea. Its a great time to track all the things that we throw away in a year. Its probably a lot so when you get to the end of the year it should inspire you to throw away more in the next year. This could help to save the planet and it could also reduce the amount of pollution all around. I also think its a good idea that he used some of it as decoration on his walls. He should track it, then see how much trash he throws away in the next year. It probably cluttered his basement but it was a very good experiment. It really helped the environment and i think we should all GO GREEN!!!
October 29th, 2009 at 8:19 pm
I think what this guy did was amazing in a unique way. i think this was amazing because he saved what we would atomaticlly throw away in the trash, while not thinking where it would end up in the future. This guy saved a animals in the ocean and every were because where ever your trash ends up when you throw it away, it could be in someone else home. This guy really wanted to save the world and go green. If I were him I would have started to save my trash and go green along time ago because then we could have helped the world more.
October 29th, 2009 at 8:21 pm
I think that this idea was pretty smart because Dave Chameides wanted to test himself to see how much waste he produced. Everyone thought that he was crazy, however, he only had 30 lbs in eight months, while the average American had 900 lbs? That is 30 times less than the average person! I think that he was really trying to help the environment, and make it better, however, he should have considered what would happen if he stored all his waste in his house. If he kept going on like this, his whole house would be overflowing with garbage. All in all, I believe that this man was trying to set an example for us. He was showing us that we have to think about how much we are wasting, and if we really want to start helping the world, or being “Green” we have to look at the little things, like how much trash we throw away. He really showed me that we waste too much, and that we should try to lower and decrease the amount we waste. We take too much for granted, and do not realize how much we use until it is all gone. Dave really had good intentions, and showed he cares.
October 29th, 2009 at 8:24 pm
First of all, I just want to say that I think this man, and what he is doing is amazing.I don’t think I would ever save my trash! I like the fact that even though he would have to get rid of all of his savings one day, he still kept on doing it and continued helping the earth. Not only is he saving his trash, but he is using solar panels, owns a prius hybrid car, and installed compact fluorescent light bulbs in his home ( for whatever was necessary). I think he is a great example and motivator of what we need to be like/should try to be like. It is very fascinating to see a man that has only produced 30 pounds of garbage in eight months, while everyone else generates about 900 pounds! In a way, I think what he is doing is a little crazy and weird, but he is helping the planet and that’s the good thing. I look up to him a bit because it is awesome that he is actually doing such a thing. We should all try to go green and help the earth like he is. I know I’m going to try!
October 29th, 2009 at 8:35 pm
I thought this article was very interesting. He went green full out. The guy might of have been weird but very interesting.
October 29th, 2009 at 8:45 pm
I think that it is weird to save all that stuff in a room, but i was smart that he didn’t just collect all of his food but he put all his food in a compost. Other people should mind there garbage and not throw away as much, by doing this you may see the dramatic change in the capacity in the landfills. You could do the same thing as Dave Chameides and use a compost with all the food that your family produces. It is amazing how he only had a small amount of waist, wail everyone else generates a whole bunch of trash. Even though it is good to go green you don’t have to, you can just take your own point of view on global warning. I just have to say, that if you should really take global warming seriously.
October 29th, 2009 at 9:10 pm
I think that this guy was kind of cool but kind of weird for keeping all of his trash for eight months. I don’t think i would like all my trash in my house.I think that i would trip on all that trash and not have enough space with eight months of waste in my house. It was cool that he only wasted 30 pounds in eight months rather than the average American who wastes 900 pounds. I thought it was junk that all of his waste still had to go to the landfill. But i think that this guy might inspire people to try and realize how much waste they are actually creating and try to not waste as much and help the earth.
October 29th, 2009 at 9:15 pm
I think that that man did a very good thing because he saved up trash to show us how much we waste. He didn’t even waste as much as an average American and still, his house was full of trash. What he has done was very good because it could inspire us all to be sustainable so that we would not take too much from the environment so that it will keep us alive.
October 29th, 2009 at 9:18 pm
I think that Dave Chameides is doing his part to save our planet. If i had to do what he did i wouldnt even last a week. Im still very surprised that he only had 30 pounds of trash when the average american produces about 900 pounds of trash in eight months. And i have one question does saving all your trash make your house smell? Dont let other people stop you from doing your job to save the world. So whats next dave? Are you gonna carpool and see how much co2 you save? GO DAVE!!!!!!!
October 29th, 2009 at 9:38 pm
I think that the experiment is a good thing. He is saving his trash to see how much waste he produces in a year. I wonder how he got the idea to save all of his trash for a year, as an experiment. The experiment shows that he is willing to go to the limits to help the environment, and go green. I really like the fact that everyone who knows about the experiment is very supportive, and they join in. I think the idea of saving trash for a year is a bit extreme, but if it saves the planet your fine. So always remember to save the planet and GO GREEN!!
October 29th, 2009 at 9:56 pm
I think it’s kinda weird to keep his trash but good because he is figuring out ways to reduce his trash production. Sometimes I wish that more people knew how to reduce the amount of trash they use. There are many ways that you can go green which is gonna be needed to preserve the `aina and this beautiful earth we live on. We should all try to make a difference but we don’t have to go as far as him. The smallest thing we do can help make a big difference. Everyone shoudl go green!!!
October 29th, 2009 at 9:57 pm
I think it was a good thing that he saved all stuff. Even though he would throw away all that stuff after, it was good for the environment. By saving all that stuff he was saving the earth which is the important thing. After a while he was going green by change his light bulbs to compact fluorescent and began using solar panels. I also think he was a bit crazy but he’s going green which is good for the earth.
October 29th, 2009 at 10:03 pm
I think that it is cool how he believes in himself and in his experiment so much to keep his project going. It is also great how he wanted to save the environment, and to make an organized recycling system. He is doing a great job at going green.I think he has the dedication and commitment in his project to keep it going for a year. I also think that when his project ends, he should continue. He is a great man who had a smart idea, and I think he is doing a great job at it.
October 29th, 2009 at 11:10 pm
I think that saving trash for a year was very extreme, but I think that the only way to get a message across is to be extreme. Knowing your footprint is a good thing. Eventually he found himself saving trash. If my family saved trash for a year I think we would have to buy a new house to hold it all. He tried to make a difference and that is very important. He gave a message to the world that one person can make a difference. You can make a difference if you wanted to, and you should want to because global warming and climate change are very real and very important. So everyone lets all SAVE THE EARTH one person at a time!
October 30th, 2009 at 7:26 am
I think it was good that he saved all he did. He found out how much he wasted and he only wasted 30 pounds of waste. I think he did the right thing. All the trash that he saved, saved the earth.
October 30th, 2009 at 7:34 am
I think the guy is cool. It is awesome how he saves all his trash. He is showing how much trash a person saves for a year, I think this is good, because he is setting example. He is even saving less than a normal person, so the people have a picture how much trash they throw away. He is weird because he saves trash. That’s what I think. He’s smart.
October 30th, 2009 at 7:35 am
I think that was cool what that man did!! I also think its gross but he did this for a good cause. He saved a lot of trash and showed us we need to save more than just throw away. If we did more to help the planet maybe we wouldnt be i this crisis right now.
October 30th, 2009 at 7:37 am
i think that Dave Chameide was very smart because he saved all of his trash and kept it to show people how much waste we make. He tried to reuse and recycle as much as possible and it resulted in a little amount of trash. He was very brave because his house must have smelled really bad. People must have thought he was weird and dumb to do this, but i think it was smart of him to show people just how much we waste in a year.
October 30th, 2009 at 7:38 am
I thought that it was a smart experiment. The reason why is because I never really new how much trash the average man makes. I also thought it was pretty smart when he used worms to break down trash and recycled all the bottles and such that can be recycled. The only thing that made me concerned is how he could stand all that smell. To sum it up i think that we should all go green and do something like this, but i do not know if i can stand all my trash.*~* @_@
October 30th, 2009 at 7:46 am
What this man is doing is saving our world by reducing the amount of trash in the land fills.I appreciate this action being done by the man saving not just one but saving the world by saving his trash. Everybody should do this but not for the fame, they should do it for the Earth.
October 30th, 2009 at 8:42 am
I think that he is a great role model for everyone. He helps the planet and he is really considerate. I think that there should be more people like him in the earth.
October 30th, 2009 at 9:49 am
This man was very smart and really cares about the enviorment. He saved his trash and wasted way less than the average person. He saved his trash even though he would have to take it to the landfill. He really wants to save the enviorment, he took the choice to go green. You don’t have to save your trash but will you go green
October 30th, 2009 at 1:40 pm
I think it was smart of him to save up his trash cause it shows others that anyone can do it. He also showed others that you can change your amount of trash from around 500 pounds to 50.
October 30th, 2009 at 2:11 pm
I think that even though it looks lke the guy is a pack rat or a crazy person who just saves everything, it really makes a difference. I think that its amazing how much pounds of waste he saved in 8 months. I would try to do what he is doing, but i don’t think i have enough room for all of that. This is a good way to go green, i just don’t think that everyone in the world is able to live their life this way. Even though it might not seem hard, it takes a lot of sacrificing and time to completely go green. Earth friendly people are cool(: they must not wanna die, HAHA . YAY NO MORE GLOBAL WARMING !! (or we might all die before we can go green) Oh and one more thing, don’t waste paper, SAVE TREES !!
October 30th, 2009 at 2:23 pm
This article shows that it isn’t that hard to use less trash. Dave Chameides has managed to live in his own trash, only collecting 30 lbs. in eight months while the average American generates more than 900 lbs. If we watch what we throw away, and not waste the things we have, there would be less pollution, and a better life! For just one person, being sustainable is simple, but when we think about saving the planet, it seems impossible.
October 30th, 2009 at 2:33 pm
I think that man was crazy to save all of his trash. I would have saved it for one day then multiplied it by 365. Even though I think he is sort of crazy, I’m happy he was able to show us how much we waste. I wonder what his family thought of his idea. Now I know that if we don’t do something quickly, this place will be a dump!
November 1st, 2009 at 7:26 pm
I think that I had a really good time reading the article. It really interested me that he saved all of his recyclable trash for a whole year. I think that I could never do that even if I was a hippie. I think that it was kind of cool how he conserved everything that would normally be thrown away by an average American. He also put solar panels on his roof, and he bought a Prius. Haha, PRIUS!
November 1st, 2009 at 7:39 pm
I think that the man who saved the trash for a year is a great man beause he probably now saved our cummunity and is a hero and he helped us to not polute the ocean or the air. But one thing that is totally weird about the garbage is that a persons home averages 800 pounds of garbage every 8 months, and this man is only wasting up to 30 pounds throgh that time period isnt that weird well i think that we should all do that. It is up to you to choose weather you want to save trash, save our cummunity, and not polute our air, and our ocean.
November 2nd, 2009 at 7:06 am
I think that the guy is nuts trying to save all of the trash for an experiment. His house or basement must stink like crazy. He must be real dedicated to throwing all of his trash away. His family must be hurting because he spending a lot looking through trash then he is spending time with his family. If I was his wife then I would be pissed. He hi doing this for a good reason.
November 2nd, 2009 at 7:08 am
I think the man that saved all the trash was very resourceful by putting a survey on the trash he wastes in a year and seeing how much of it can he recycle or reuse. Yeah it was pretty crazy to save trash for 365 days but everybody can donate a little help to the Earth. If we all recycle and reuse a little plastic and paper to hep save the Earth.
November 2nd, 2009 at 9:00 am
I think it was good that Dave saved all of his trash in his basement. Sometimes it is good to see how much you was a year. When you see the abundance of waste you make it could change the way you think about the Earth, landfills, and waste. I learned that wasting is not good especially non recyclable items. Good Job Dave!
November 2nd, 2009 at 9:26 am
I think that was pretty smart because you can find out how much things you use, then you can multiply that by the total amount of people in the world and see how much trash we make each year. It must of been really stink and crowded in his house, but he did something really smart that could one day benefit us all
November 2nd, 2009 at 10:14 am
I think that this guy is so smart but at the same time I think that he must be pretty crazy to keep all of that trash I wonder what he will do with it later?
November 2nd, 2009 at 2:01 pm
I think it is cool that Dave saved all the trash. I can’t believe Dave produced 30 pounds of trash 8 months. I can’t believe that Dave can preserve some of the trash items for 8 months like, pizza boxes, styrofoam, and bottles. I would have totally have done this if I could. Dave must be full of great ideas.
November 2nd, 2009 at 2:05 pm
I think that it was really cool that this man was able to save all that trash in a year. It was cool that his wife was ok with it. It was so cool that he was able to have 30lb while the average american has 900lb of trash. Dave Chameides is a really good role-model to the world because he can show us how we can help the world and what one person can do. It is like what the Hawaiians would say if you help the land the land will help you.
November 2nd, 2009 at 7:33 pm
I think that man is smart to save all of his trash. That way we can have less trash to worry about. He choose a good wife because she stuck with him even though he saves his trash. He is also wise. If we had people that followed in his footsteps, we will probably have less trash to worry about.
November 3rd, 2009 at 3:41 am
I think that it was good for the guy to save his trash for a year. I thought it was funny though when he saved his trash when he went to Mexico. I am glad that he was actually able to save all his trash for atleast 8 months. Thats super long and I don’t think that I would be able to do that. I also thought that it was kind of weird because he would mash worms into a blender and eat it.I think that we should all try it for a week and see how much we actually waste.
November 3rd, 2009 at 1:05 pm
I think that was cool. I cant believe he did that. I think if I did that my house would be a mess and I don’t think my house can handle it. He had only 30 lbs. and the average american has 900lbs. of waste.
November 4th, 2009 at 2:11 pm
i think that this man is doing a good thing by recycling all of his trash for a year, because then we will get to see how much trash most people in the united states would waste. it was funny that every time people asked him why he saved his trash and every time he had to explain to them. then they always understood him and agreed with what he was doing.
November 4th, 2009 at 2:36 pm
I think this guy is a little nuts taking his trash to mexico but it still helped save the enviorment so it was a good thing that he did that. I think that saving your trash for a year does alot imagine if everyone did that the earth woud not have many problems it does today. I think that it its pretty cool that he only had 30 pounds of trash i think we should all try to save our trash to help the enviorment.
November 5th, 2009 at 10:12 am
I though this man was very headstrong and confident about his project. He really wanted to do this, even though everyone said it was crazy. He didn’t think it was crazy, he though it was a good way to reduce his trash and it did. I honestly wouldn’t do that because it would probably smell, and I live in an apartment so its hard. I think some people should try to do that if they have a house with somewhere to put all that, so we can reduce. For people who cannot do that they should just find other ways to reduce waste. If all of us tried this would be a better earth.
November 7th, 2009 at 8:29 am
I think this guy was determined in his project. He is very into going green. He was so determined that I sort of thought he was crazy. It’s a great thing to see someone doing that to save the Earth.
And only 30 pounds of trash this guy is insane. This guy is a great role model and I think that If we at least tried to be a little like him we wouldn’t have so much pollution and trash in our landfills.
November 10th, 2009 at 2:46 pm
I think that this guy was very determined to protect the planet. I think that he is a good role model and that if we tried to be like him we could help heal the earth.
November 10th, 2009 at 2:59 pm
I think saving your trash is actually a great idea. Then people can realize how much trash they actually waste through out thier whole life. Its crazy that people have over 500 pounds of waste a year. GO GREEEN!!!!!!!!!!!! or purple..
November 11th, 2009 at 3:29 pm
I think that saving trash is just crazy alone. To save your trash for an entire 8 months is really insane. Dave Chameides proved that it only takes one person, one voice to change people’s perspective on going green. This man was able to live with garbage in his garage weighing way less than the average household waste in America. No one ever does that anymore these days, because it’s plain crazy. I hope that someday in 20 years, it will have changed. If you think about it, Mother Nature knows how to take care of herself, just like us. When we help, it will be like speeding up the process. In conclusion, I hope to see a greener future ahead. GO GREEN!
November 12th, 2009 at 1:17 pm
I think that what the man did was very different and good for the world. I thought that this was different because no one had actually recycled for this long, usually when they find out that the world is in trouble people don’t usually do anything about it. Just one guy made a difference, and I’m trying to do the same thing he’s doing but, its hard because there’s curtain people that don’t want to go green. We always take things from the world and we never give back, this is something that we should change. “Man Saves Trash For a Year” is a great article about recycling, and someday i think that we should all follow in his foot steps.
November 12th, 2009 at 3:38 pm
I think the man is doing good cause he is being a role model to the world.
November 17th, 2009 at 8:21 am
He is setting an example. He wanted to figure out how much waste we make in a year and how much we can reduce in waste. We should all follow his example and take place in this project and reduce in your waste. Doing this will only help us. Go greeeeeeeeeeeeen!
November 17th, 2009 at 4:49 pm
Well I think that expanding the landfill is a good idea, however I feel that it is very bad for the environment. I mean what we could do is encourage people to try to waste less so there will be no need of expanding the landfill. If that happens then there will be less trash, less pollution, and an better environment.
November 18th, 2009 at 1:26 pm
I think it was good that he did it because it shows others that they too can go green. I also think that his wife is super cool that she had allowed him to collect that trash.
