There is bacteria in ice?!? I never would have thought that there would be any viruses in ice. We also need to help stop global warming because then the ice will melt and release the viruses in the water we swim, play, and even drink we will all get the virus and it will be a bad thing (pandemic). What’s even worse is we don’t even now where the virus came from or where it went to but scientist thereoy is it came from the ice and went back to the ice

WOW!!! that was pretty interesting because how the virus stays in glaciers and then when it melts is spreads the virus. I also didn’t know that it holds viruses, i was surprised that it could be dangerous to all of us if we don’t act now. I liked this video and it is interesting.

When I first started the video, I thought it was going to be about melting glaciers and that global warming is causing it, but it was mostly about the virus in the glaciers. I think that if we don’t want to get the virus, we are going to have to be more green, like we can recycle more things and we shouldn’t dump any waste in the oceans. I hope that scientists will find the evidence of that type of virus.

WOW THIS A REALLY BAD THING. AS THEY SAID THERE ARE ALOT OF VIRUSES AND BACTERIA IN THE ICE.
WE NEED TO STOP GLOBAL WARMING AND

I thought that was very col and very weird on how there is viruses in the glaciers. Also how there more of them are melting. I learned that a virus called influensa is in the ice and also everywhere else. Also the virus had dissapeered for a while then appeared 20 years later.

I think that the point of this video is to stop global warming. If we do, then we might be safer and not get as many viruses in the ice that is now melting in Antarctica and other places. Ice is where some viruses are, and if we melt that ice through global warming then thats bad because there is no cure for the viruses trapped in the ice.

I think that thus video was pretty interesting about the melting glaciers. I didn’t know that when the glaciers melt, there are viruses that spread. It is interesting because if we don’t act now, then there can be dangerous viruses that can spread. In conclusion, this video teaches us about how we should do something about the glaciers:)

I knew that this was inevitable because the arctic ice of the world have been frozen for millions of years from the eras that could have extremely deadly pandemics like the carbon era which was when the whole world had a sort of tropical temperature, perfect for new viruses to breed. They could have remained dormant from then into the ice age and survived to our time. We need to stop the rapid melting before we actually encounter a super virus.

That video was very interesting. I did not know that glacier could cause disease, even though I watch the discovery channel every day. This is very serious if this water travels far enough then we would have a global flood. We should not have fast food places and we should live better suitable for the environment. All I knew about glaciers is that they move 6 inches every 24 hours. Now I know more.

who knew that ice/glaciers can hold deadly and bacterial viruses??? I would have never thought that of all places, its in ice. Well viruses and bacteria can survive in extreme environments so im not surprised. Im just trippin out that it might be in the water we drink and swim and stuffs. Its kinda freaky that we dont know where the virus came from….

That was interesting… I didn’t know that bacteria grew on ice. When the ice melts, the infected water will go into our oceans and it will contaminate it and when people go in ii they can get infected. If people go fishing, most likely the fish will be contaminated. The scary part is that they are invisible.

My reaction to this video is that I am scared about the viruses and if we swim in the water the viruses could get inside us. I also think that we could not fight against it because it was an old virus that did not change.

I think that the ice has bacteria in it is kind of dangerous because when it melts it. goes into the water. It is kind of scary because the bacteria may infect the fish and other sea life creatures. If it doesn’t the bacteria can come over hear and infect us. Many people could die. And we wont have fish to eat.

I think that the thought of almost prehistoric viruses is cool yet scary. If they find evidence of infectious viruses then we could be coming up to a epidemic but until they find that I think that it poses no threat to us.

OMG!!!!!! I learned that we we really need to help keep the world clean! Many people don’t take global warming seriously and if we don’t act now we’ll be under the water real soon!!!!! I learned that we should start recycling more and stay clean. I also learned that ducks carry a bad virus and again if we don’t act now we get that virus! I hope they do something about this ice problem because I don’t want our island to be under water anytime soon!:)

WHAT THE HECK that is terriable that some disease are in the melting Glaciers. I want to know what will eventualy happen when all the glaciers will melt and what will happen when the viruses will come in contact with the humans Everyones lives could be in danger. What about cancer when will they find the cure for cancer. Thats why we hace to go green and recycle E malama i ka aina.

This video was very scary. I think that since there is a lot of bacteria in the ice it could kill a lot of things. The ice could melt and the bacteria can go in the water. The bacteria could kill many fish. It could also kill people. If we don’t do anything about it or if we don’t find a quiz then many people and fish will die. Then we can’t eat as much fish because the bacteria could infect them too

This relates to sustainabilty be cause we need to sustain the ice. If we didnt have global warming wich is sustainability than we wouldnt have this problem anyway. Viruses know how to sustain. Except for they kill the cells and all that… >:-)

Wow. Amazing! I never knew that viruses could survive in arctic glaciers. And the fact that they might have been there from hundreds or even thousands of years ago is kinda scary. It could be an older version that our bodies never adapted to yet.

if we don’t stop global warming, if we don’t stop wasting and making trash. We are all going to die or become really sick. people said that we might not be able to become immune to the virus or if we can resist it, so if we don’t stop global warming we will all, most likely die. so we should all watch this movie and care about our home more (earth) and care about our health and others health, then global warming will stop then we will all live for a pretty long time and we will be happy and not dead. so yah we should all live a good life.

Sustainability and Viruses are linked because when the water becomes polluted by the waste and garbage, the water and ice become infected with viruses. Also when the birds fly in the air and on the water they give off viruses. Then their viruses goes into the air and in the water. All the trash that is not recycled or put away properly goes in the water and the water spreads viruses around. Then all the viruses from the water and ice comes to us and can make us sick.

I think that we should start riding our bikes to get to places that are close to our house because we can stop global warming and then the glaciers can not melt. If the glaciers wont melt they wont disperse in to the world. If the viruses get out of the glaciers then we may or may not have a pandemic. Some of the viruses problem are from the past and they got frozen in the ice and we would have the meds.

The viruses are infecting our waters again but in the glacier water because the viruses are coming back to the river of glacier water. It is not going to help by infecting our waters because it will spread because it is in the water and it could go everywhere in the water.

Now I’m really scared! Seriously, I don’t want more sicknesses coming in, especially if they where frozen supposedly for 20-30 years. With sustainability and all, we need to try to save the environment, and be sustainable. Global warming from our mistakes trying to release all these viruses are not helping!! And with a recycled virus that we may not be immune to, a lot of people might not be able fight it off, we dye, the earth dyes, we will not be sustainable.

This is an interesting video. It’s kind of weird that there are viruses living in the ice. I would think that they would like freeze or something, but they don’t. So if the world flooded because of global warming would there also be like a pandemic or something? =0

I dint know there were plant pathogens in ice. Our world is in danger if they emerge from the ice. Viruses that are like very stable, airborne or waterborne will arise.Its like influenza, its found in every thing it would spread everywhere.If you freeze influenza in a laboratory it can be deadly for decades. We might expect new viruses because of global warming.Its a weird virus! So this has everything to do with sustainability, so reduce, reuse, recycle. Thats the only way to save the planet!

I think that Dr. Castello should do what he says. I think itʻs kind of weird that there is influenza in the ice. I think that if influenza were in the water or ice, it would freeze but obviously itʻs not. I also think itʻs weird that the ducks have influenza.

Oh my sweet jesus!!! I cant believe that there is viruses and bacteria in ice! I wonder about how they could live and be stable in those environments. But when those glaciers melt the viruses actually are in the water. that means there is viruses everywhere and each single corner of space! This is very shocking and i just cant believe it…………………………………

This was very intresting. I never knew that we had very dangerous viruses on our glaciers. We are changing nature from beautiful to destructive. Global warming is supposed to be causing this. The birds may be another cause when they make dodo they put it into the water and it is found in the ice. We have to sustain are use of the things that harm nature. So take a stand and stop global warming.

well i think that its kind of weird that there are viruses in the ice. And its kind of scary to know that the ice will probably melt and then the viruses are gunna be everywhere…and i dont want to swim in it if the water has the virus cause i dont want to get sick. :[ I think that it is really gross and can be very serious. I hope that they can get more into detail about it so we all wont die.

Who would ever think that you could find viruses in melting glaciers around the world? I wouldn’t have. I can’t believe that viruses could- like they said- disappear for years, and then possibly re-appear in the near future. It is a little odd to think that when we create green house gases, and are destroying our atmosphere, we are also allowing those viruses another way to get out and into the air around us. Or in the water we drink, or the water we use to take a shower. I think that this shows that we haven’t really been noticing exactly how much damage we have been doing to our earth, and how much trouble we will be in is something bad happens.

i never knew it was this bad.
i thought the big risks of global warming were ice avalanches and flooding.
i never thought it was possible for viruses to live in the ice.
it’s like a pre-historic disease.
if we were careful and aware of our surroundings and how we affected them this might have not happened and we wouldn’t have to worry.
if we had sustained the enviornment this might have not happened.
but it did, and we need to figure out a way to reverse the changes global warming has brought.

his was scary for me even though i live way in the western pacific (hawaii)..it caught my attention that viruses such as influenza can be located anywhere ( where you least expect it). Always be aware of everything surrounding you. This relates to sustainability because glaciers melt cause of global warming. If we help to prevent global warming then we could also stop viruses. Even though we may live in Hawaii, still anything can happen. Sadly viruses are connected to sustainability! we can do better:]

this is surprising…….
i never knew that viruses can survive in glaciers.
this could have all been prevented by beeing more aware of our environment and more careful with it. we wouldn’t have to worry about it at all if we had paid attention to what we were doing to it. i guess this should be a wake up call for all the people who take advantage of the earth.

This is related to sustainability because if we continue to melt ice then we would all be infected with recycled viruses that the human race previously faced. The biggest threat here is influenza because if influenza is released then a worldwide epidemic will start. Melting ice and raising water levels will not be the only problem if we do not stop.

I thought about this video and I am very amazed. Its so unbelievable how those viruses can live in such extreme conditions and last for hundreds of years. Its also amazing how our carelessness and mistakes can do us so much great damage to ourselves and the earth. Dang, that is pretty bad that there is Flu and other viruses in the glaciers. When the glaciers melt all of the water in the world will be unsafe to go in. It is pretty scary that it is in the water because then we will have to find some way to clean our water from all of those viruses so we can drink and get water. I hope the scientist can figure out a way to get rid of this stuff. I wouldn’t want to be drinking Flu infected water.

I thought that global warming was caused by our air pollution and our o-zone. Now i hear that global warming is also caused by virus that can be found in animals and fish that swim across or fly or pass by water they give off influenza virus into the water especially water that freezes fast and gets infected even while iced. Influenza can be affective for decades while being freezed. This is scary, if we can’t stop it, even our water we drink will be bad for us plus the fact we might drown in our own mess.

OMG! IMBD! I think that after watching this video, I learned that we should take care of our environment by not polluting. When we pollute, the pollution goes into the air, the ocean, or lets just say all over the place and harms other animals. When the pollution went into the water it affected the glaciers and now there are bacteria and really bad viruses there now. Now scientist are doing whatever they can to stop this! this is sorta creepy…. i mean super old viruses that people arent immune to. we need to cut back on greenhouse gasses or else more of our island is gonna be underwater and we could get sick. and the virus could just come and go and we would be clueless about where it was. we need to be sustainable because this is our mess and if we dont do anything about, then we’re in trouble

At first I didn’t really get the idea of how viruses would have anything to do with sustainability or melting glaciers. I thought this was actually pretty scary when I thought about it. Some scientists have theories that all of the melting glaciers may hold viruses in them that the world may not have immunity to. So if we keep living like we are and taking advantage of our earth, glaciers will keep on melting and the viruses in the ice may spread. I understand how viruses has something to do with sustainability now, because if we don’t start living sustain-ably ice will keep melting and soon viruses may spread and infect many people.

whoa… ancient viruses in big blocks of ice… AHHHH!!! THATS REALLY GROSS!! and the fact that they can be spread in the water just makes it even worse! ewww grossness!

I never knew there was viruses in ice, now i know that there is virus es in ice. I learn more and more each time i go to school,and each time theres another blog, i learned that we need to protect ourself by being sustainable so be sustainable.

I canʻt believe that there are viruses in the ice glaciers. Now i am starting to get sick at the though of drinking water. With global warming going on i really canʻt be sure what kind of water i drinking. Also i can believe that influenza could have came from the ice glaciers. Now i am so going to try and stop global warming in my house.

I didn’t know that there were bacteria or viruses in the ice. We better stop global warming otherwise it will spill into the ocean and the beach will be ruined :(. I hope it won’t happen and we can stop it if we try

I can’t figure out how ice has and water have bacteria. There could be one reason, the penguins swim and poop in the ice and water. Also fish live inside the water and bacteria comes off of them and can’t find another host cell.

From this video, I learned that we need to stop global warming and be more sustainable. We need to take care of the Earth because if the glaciers keep melting we could get really sick.

Amazing that there are viruses in ice. I would never have thought of that. A virus disapeared for 20 or 30 years then came back not changed at all???Wierd??? This taught me alot more. This was amazing. :

now the only way to prevent this future PANDEMIC is to stop global warming and save our planet and the people that live there. 
i did not know how many consequences come with global warming. not only does global warming melt our glaciers, it also will cause a rise in water levels and eventually overrun costal cities, and when the ice melts, deadly pathogens are also released into the water. scientists predict that the first PANDEMIC came from the ice and then after it just dissapeared back into the ice when it was all over. now they think that the pathogens are emerging from the ice and into the water we drink, play, and live in and on. i am scared for my future generations to come. that there will be another big PANDEMIC that might kill many and possibly wipe out my future family.

These viruses that have been trapped in glaciers for hundreds of years and are now being released has a great connection with sustainability. Sustainability is like global warming and the amount of waste that we produce. The reason why these viruses are being released is because of global warming. If we don’t stop global warming, all of these new unknown viruses will be free from the glaciers and may attack us.

I think it relates to sustainability because the sun is what melts the glaciers. The CO2 is what causes the sun to get so hot that it will be able to melt the glaciers. This all goes back to pollution that were making with our automobiles. These automobiles make gas and it starts to go out and make CO2.

These viruses are very scary and just comes to show that they could be every where. They have been hiding for so long and now are coming out because of the condition of the earth. Sustainability is connected to this because global warming is probably causing this and we must be sustainable to stop global warming.

I have to say when I heard of this it was shocking. I never knew that a virus could live inside a glacier. I could see that many viruses are turning up in places that are not common to most people. To me learning this will educate a lot of other people to learn about what is happening on our world today. To hear this made me think what about all kinds of other things like trees, plants, and flowers the things that come in contact with us everyday could be holding viruses. So it should make you think to learn, investigate, and share.

I think that this video i kind of scary because there is a possibility that because of global warming we could be getting viruses that is incurable. I really hope that if this does happen that we wont be getting epidemics from this.

I think that we are KILLERS!!!!! I feel so bad for the animals that have to suffer because of our preventable actions. From our dumb mistakes and actions, the poor animals are suffering. They don’t have a home and their babies can’t survive on their own. We have to stop all of the things like driving cars and trashing everything can be prevented very easily. For driving cars you can get a work out and ride the bike. For our trash we have to throw it away in the trash can and not on the earth. We have to stop global warming and help the animals and also help our PLANET for the next generation.

I did not know that viruses can be in ice too. I mean it’s not much of a surprise because I have learned that they could live in very extreme environments. I also think that it is very weird that a virus had disappeared for a long time and then to come back and it was still like the same. Global warming SUCKS! It is so sad and it is bad for animals and humans. Global warming melts the ice that could have been used to make fresh water for us to drink, or that could have been used to make a new home for polar bears or maybe even penguins. VIRUSES!!!

Its very surplising that the bacteria and viruses can survive in that type of environment. I think that this video I kind of scary because there is a possibility, because of global warming we could be getting viruses that are incurable with any vaccine/antibiotics. It could be an older version that our bodies never adapted to yet.

I didn’t know that bacteria and virus can survive in the ice. I think that is very interesting. Since there is global warming going on it is melting the ice and if that happens then the bacteria and virus will be free to spread.
