{"id":316,"date":"2012-05-16T14:44:18","date_gmt":"2012-05-17T00:44:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogsksbeedu.wpenginepowered.com\/edtechconference2012\/?page_id=316"},"modified":"2012-05-30T10:53:00","modified_gmt":"2012-05-30T20:53:00","slug":"teaching-in-an-ipadded-room-apples-ios-device-delights-and-dilemmas-in-the-classroom","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"http:\/\/blogs.ksbe.edu\/edtechconference2012\/teaching-in-an-ipadded-room-apples-ios-device-delights-and-dilemmas-in-the-classroom\/","title":{"rendered":"Teaching in an iPadded Room: Apple&#8217;s iOS Device Delights and Dilemmas in the Classroom"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Discussion \/ Round Table<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Administrator Strand \/ Policy Challenges<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The evolution of the Apple iPad and recent release of iBooks Author purport to be ideal devices to foster 21st Century learning environments.\u00a0 However, it can quickly become a dizzying array of options and challenges to wade through to ensure these new tools accomplish the teaching goals.\u00a0 This panel of iPad early adopters from Hawai&#8217;i schools will answer questions about the realities of iPad integration and best practices for your school.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Jim Crum<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Academy of the Pacific<\/strong><br \/>\nDirector of Technology and Teacher at Academy of the Pacific, he has been involved with implementing technology for schools and other nonprofits since 1986.\u00a0 He is currently planning to implement an iPad 1:1 program next school year.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mark Hines<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Mid-Pacific Institute<\/strong><br \/>\nMark Hines holds\u00a0 a BS in Physics, a Masters in Educational Technology and is an Educational Technology doctoral student at the University of Hawaii. He has taught Science, Math and Technology for 30 years and\u00a0 coached high school canoe paddling for 20 years. He is passionate about teaching, learning and the future of education. Mark consults and presents locally and nationally on issues of technology in education and school transformation.<br \/>\nHe is a recipient of the Presidential Award for Math and Science Teaching,\u00a0 a National Tandy Technology Scholar , and a Pacific Technology Foundation Technology Educator of the Year. He serves as a planning member of the Schools of the Future initiative for Hawaii Independent Schools. He is the president of the Hawaii Society for Technology in Education.\u00a0 In his position as Educational Technology Director at Mid-Pacific Institute, Mark oversees the planning, development and implementation of technology for teachers, staff and students.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Lynne Horiuchi<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Kamehameha Schools Kap\u0101lama<\/strong><br \/>\nLynne Horiuchi is an Instructional Technology Specialist at the Kamehameha Schools Kapalama campus, assigned to the elementary division. Prior to coming to Kamehameha 4 years ago Lynne worked for many years at St. Louis School as a Social Science teacher, department chair and director of technology.\u00a0 Her areas of expertise are mobile learning and digital citizenship. Lynne collaboratively develops &amp; implements innovative technology integration projects with KS Kapalama elementary school teachers.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Kahele Keawe<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Kapa\u2019a High School<\/strong><br \/>\nKahele is a 9th Grade English Teacher at Kapa\u2019a High School.\u00a0 He is a National Board Certified Teacher in Early Adolescense English Language Arts (Grades 5-9) and obtained his B.Ed Secondary Education in English from the University of Hawaii at Manoa and his M.A. Teaching from National University.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tedd Landgraf<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Punahou School<\/strong><br \/>\nTedd Landgraf is the co-Director of <a title=\"Lab School @Punahou\" href=\"http:\/\/labschool.punahou.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\">Lab School @Punahou<\/a> and Education Technology Administrator for the Case Middle School.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Josh Reppun<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>\u2018Iolani School<\/strong><br \/>\nI have taught history and other social studies courses at Punahou, at La Pietra, and now at Iolani. I have a BA in history from the University of Iowa and a Masters with an emphasis in service-learning from the University of Hawaii at Manoa. I was born and raised in Kahalu\u2019u, on \u2018Oahu, and graduated from Punahou in 1976.
