Teaching in a Global World

Find out how Challenge Based Learning and various technology tools helped our students learn about and take action on sustainability issues.  During this session, we will share how we have used Challenge Based Learning and an integration of various technology tools through our 1:1 laptop program to teach the topic of sustainability. We will share how technology has helped our students to create innovative projects and take action on solving real-world problems. Various student projects and examples will be shared including: videos, web 2.0 tools, and lesson ideas.

 

Liz Castillo

Liz Castillo is a 7th grade science teacher at Kamehameha Schools Kapalama Middle School.  She has been teaching middle school for 13 years in both public and private schools and also has experience as a technology resource teacher helping both teachers and students to effectively use technology tools.  Liz is passionate about using technology with students to help them communicate, collaborate, and connect with others.  Liz was honored to be named an Apple Distinguished Educator (2009), a Siemens STEM Fellow (2010), an Edmodo Featured Blogger (2011), and a member of the Apple CBL Advisory Board (2012).

Christy Mishina

Christy Mishina currently teaches 7th grade English at Kamehameha Middle School. She has taught in elementary and middles schools for the past 19 years. She has presented at local  conferences on various topics such as service learning, interdisciplinary teaching, and challenge based learning.
