Creating a Student Centered Learning Community
Presenter:
Mark Standley
Abstract:
How do we put students are the center of their learning community?
This session will detail a standards-based, hands on
learning environment in which students take the lead on their
academic, social, physical, and emotional development. Using
tools such as individualized learning plans, performance (not time)
based curriculum, culture of respect for everyone (CORE), online
“snapshots” of student progress, extended learning opportunities, and
clear expectations about what children should know and be able to do,
students can learn how to become self-directed learners and leaders.
This session will provide participants with practical solutions,
ideas, and strategies for getting student ready to achieve through
school and life as active participants in their learning community.

Great insight on a differnet view of running a school, set clear expectations, having everyone as a stakeholder. Performance is the constant, time is the variable.
