Video Requirement

One of the requirements for your final project website is to incorporate video. Here are some things to keep in mind.          (***If you are working with another person, you will have to post two videos on your site.)

1) The video must be your original creation. You cannot, for example, simply link someone else’s You Tube video to your website for the video requirement.

2) Your video should play a SUPPORTING ROLE in your website, helping to galvanize your audience to action by providing information or persuading them to act (or both).

3) As with the entire website, your topic, purpose, and audience should drive the choices you make for your video.

4) You have a lot of choices. The following would  fulfill the video requirement:

  • a slideshow of still pics with music
  • a video podcast
  • an i-movie using audio, textual and visual elements
  • Video footage of an event you took with your camera
  • a quick video interview of an expert speaking on the subject
  • a video of yourself welcoming people to your page, explaining what inspired you to design the site and what you hope to accomplish

5) DO NOT GET OVERLY AMBITIOUS. Your video should be no longer than 2 minutes in length. Also, know your limitations. You should not, for example, plan on doing an i-movie if you have not been trained to do one. GO WITH WHAT YOU KNOW. Being overly ambitious could get you in a time pickle.

6) If you are using outside sources in your video (an interview with an expert; facts, stats, or quotations; music that is not your own; still pics taken by your friend, etc.) YOU MUST CITE THEM. We will discuss how you can do this in more detail later.

7) As you do for all of the things you use on your website, follow Fair Use Guidelines in your video. Download and peruse the Fair Use Guidelines document below.

Fair Use Guidelines

8 ) BTW, you will be using WEEBLY to build your website 🙂 . You will get training on it soon, but if you want, check it out:

9) Once your video is ready, you will need to host it on You Tube before you can put it on your website. Here are two links that will be useful to you for that:
