Integrating Quotations

Lesson 1: Integrating Quotations

One of your classmates has graciously volunteered her post so that we can practice incorporating quotations smoothly into an argument. With your group members, look at her post (located below these instructions) and identify the section that is problematic. Next, go to the GMU page and click on the link “Integrating Quotations”. Look over the various ways one can successfully incorporate quotations and choose one method to improve the problematic section. You should cut and paste the original post into a word document, make the changes, then submit the improved post to me via email (difontai@ksbe.edu). Please cut and paste the improved paragraph into the body of the email; do not submit an attachment.

One of the main hygiene products that I use on a daily basis is Suave Naturals Ocean Breeze shampoo and conditioner. Did you know that Suave shampoos and conditioners contain a chemical called Bronopol, a chemical that Skin Deep evaluated as a ten which is the highest and most hazardous rating and that is restricted in cosmetics. Upon further research, the Toxic Cosmetics Ingredients List claims that Bronopol “causes allergic contact dermatitis.” “Allergic contact dermatitis is caused by a reaction to substances called allergens that come into contact with your skin” a quote from the American Academy of Dermatology. Some symptoms of allergic contact dermatitis include itching, redness, and blisters. The skin of the contaminated area can thick and swollen with tiny blisters that are on the skin. To help bring this condition into perspective, a common allergic contact dermatitis is poison ivy. The bronopol in the shampoos and conditioners can act just like poison ivy, causing a reaction on your scalp, resulting in itchiness, redness, and/or blisters. However, Skin Deep does not identify what the label “restricted” means. Does it mean restricted as to the amount of bronopol that is used within the shampoo and conditioner, or that the use of bronopol is not allowed to be in the shampoo and conditioner at all?
